Recently the last living Veteran from World War 1 passed away. The senators from his home state want him to be honored in the Capitol building’s rotunda in DC, but House Speaker John Boehner has denied that request.
West Virginia’s two Democratic senators blamed House Speaker John Boehner on Thursday after their hopes of having the remains of World War I veteran Frank Buckles honored in the Capitol Rotunda were dashed, at least for now.
Buckles died Sunday on his farm in Charles Town, W.Va., at the age of 110. He had been the last surviving American veteran of World War I.
The episode turned what West Virginia lawmakers had hoped would be easy approval for the rare honor for Buckles into a finger-pointing dispute with partisan overtones.
It was unclear late Thursday how the disagreement would end. Asked whether Boehner would be supportive if the Senate approved a resolution allowing Buckles’ remains to lie in the Rotunda, Steel said, “We’ll see what the Senate does.”

This is so wrong, it makes my stomach turn. John Boehner has taken on the role of a Dictator. If it is policy that one man, and one man only has complete control over the availability of the Capitol Building than something has gone terribly wrong that needs our attention to have this fixed. This building belongs to the people of the United States.
It’s pathetic at best. In today’s climate of ‘get what we want and move on”, once men and women sign their enlistment contracts, they become a number that is easily forgotten by a number of our elected representatives. It’s often worse for those who were drafted, regardless of the merits of their service to our country. For those who only know how to serve themselves and their ego, there is no respect for those who kept this country afloat.
The thought(?) process seems to be that Buckles is dead, isn’t donating his estate to the GOP, and can’t vote… NEXT! Patriot Boehner, may you fall on your sword.

There’s no ‘probably’ about it. If it had been Republicans asking for it he would have done it in a heartbeat.
Now’s Obama’s chance to make Boehner really look petty. Invite his family to have this gentleman lie in state at the White House for a day or two.
This action by Speaker BONEHEAD does not surprise me. The Republicans in Congress are the most spiteful, petty, disgusting human beings I have ever seen. They will go to no ends to show that they are in charge now, even to the point of disrespecting someone who fought to keep this country free. I hope the people who elected these jerks are proud of themselves. The Republican party in general and the elected Republican “officials” (and I use that term very loosely) should hang their head in shame.
