NH GOP Congressman Martin Harty Resigns After Saying Disabled Are ‘Defective’ And ‘Should Be Shipped Off To Siberia’.

Martin Harty has resigned after comments he made last week regarding the disabled gained national media attention.

A community health program manager got a surprise when she e-mailed Congressman Hartylast week to ask him about why he had voted to cut money from mental health programs. The Congressman told her that society would be better without disabled people and mentally ill people because they are ‘defective’, and we ‘should ship disabled people to Siberia’.

“Sorry my big mouth caused this furor,” Harty said in his resignation letter, according to The New Hampshire Union-Leader.

    I have a question, where do YOU find these people who run for public office and who are flippin clueless?? This man needs to work with the disabled and mentally challenged to see that they are REAL people and not throw aways. QUIT ELECTING THESE BOZOS, if you want a clown in office, go to the circus and hire one of them, they at least know their craft and can entertain, this idiot is just that an IDIOT.     As a person with a disability AND a registered Republican, I say good riddance to this guy. The GOP doesn’t need people like him.

      I haven’t asked my Republican friends who they’d like to see finish first in the Republican Primaries; I don’t want to know. The field is full of individuals just as hard hearted and cruel. Sorry they’ve sucked you in to their “greed first” modality and philosophies.

    This man does not deserve the respect of the American people! Nor does he deserve to be in office!! He has it all wrong these people are people to they are not retarded they are developmentally disabled!
    Perhaps he should be sent off to Siberia to die!! WHAT A FREAKIN JERK!! Next time Mr. Harty you should choose your words a bit more wisely as you never know who is going to hear or read about what you say! You also need to be more educated on individuals who have disabilities! I work with the developmentally disabled people and they have just as much of a right to be in this world just like you or I! They have the same rights to everything in this world that is offered to you and I! They are also smarter than alot of people like you who are stuck in time years ago when they were put into institutions! I would be more affraid to be walking down the street to get shot by a gang member or hurt then ever being attacked by one of these individuals that you call retarded!! You realize one thing here and that is you have a disability just as they do everyone does in one form or another so when you speak realize this you are just talking about yourself to!!

    Interesting choice of word in that “apology”, considering the last person to utter the hate he spewed was “the Fuhrer”. And he still didn’t really apologize or take responsibility for what he actually said. That apology is for the results (ie: he’s sorry his words “caused this furor”), not for the words themselves.

    NH will be far better off without him. People like him almost make me regret being an atheist, as I would like to believe there is a special place in “Hell” for them.

    My parents always taught me to respect my elders and I have, however, I have abstolutely no respect for Harty.
