FL GOP Rep. Says 11-Year-Old Was Gang Raped ‘Because She Was Dressed Like A 21 Year-Old Prostitute’
During a debate over a bill that would require state school districts to adopt a dress code that prohibits students from “wearing clothing that exposes underwear or body parts in an indecent or vulgar manner. GOP Florida lawmaker Kathleen Passidomo used the example of an 11 year old girl being raped as reason for supporting the bill. Then she implied it was the girl’s parent’s fault that she had been raped, because of how her parents let her dress. Here’s what she said;
There was an article about an 11 year old girl who was gangraped in Texas by 18 young men because she was dressed up like a 21-year-old prostitute. And her parents let her attend school like that. And I think it’s incumbent upon us to create some areas where students can be safe in school and show up in proper attire so what happened in Texas doesn’t happen to our students.

10:50 pm
What an idiot if she was in the middle east she’d be stoned to death for being out of her burka…when did bad fashion ever justify a criminal act….
6:59 pm
Had this 11-year old child known she was going to get gang-raped, I’m sure she would have dressed like she did anyway:
Everybody knows that ALL 11-year old girls want to be violated by 18 guys.
(snark)
5:03 pm
Another evidence of GOP compassion: In a vote-winning display of budget slashing, the new GOP governor of Georgia eliminated all funding for battered women’s shelters. He explained it as a move designed to strengthen families…
1:14 pm
Rep. Passidomo should resign, pure and simple. Her remarks are unbelievable. To even imply that it was OK for an eleven year old, no matter how she was dressed to be raped even once, much less by eighteen men is unforgivable.
10:00 am
More fundamentalist mentality – the Muslim version shot little girls trying to exit a burning building – because they didn’t have their heads covered. This is the same shit. These people need to be made examples of. Public vilification and personal quarantine.
Here’s what to do: EVERY working person that comes in contact with these idiots or their minions – just refuse service. No delivery (“Our trucks do not stop at this address”/grocery checkout (“I’m sorry, we don’t serve your kind here”/repair (“Get one of your right-wing friends to fix it”/gardening (“I have let your plants die, to match your soul”/taxi (“Say aren’t you Kathleen Passidomo? Get the fuck out of my cab.”) Complete social quarantine.
10:11 am
You fucking twat!
8:46 pm
“Shunning” can be a good idea. Imagine if every union worker shunned the GOPpers trying to destroy unions. Let Boehner walk home because no plane will fly with him on it!
It’s nonviolent and completely consistent with free market principles!
6:20 am
Unfortunately, Shunning would only feed into their racist and elitist views. Also, it would only serve to allow them to sue the companies that refused service even though, privately, they would think and do the exact same thing. I happened to me here in San Diego at a government office due to the face I am “different” and was told to “go ahead and try to sue us. We will bankrupt you before it ever goes to court”
3:20 pm
Wow, so 18 degenerates decide that forcibly diddling a little girl is a great idea, and decide to make it a group affair… and this is the fault of the girl, and by extension, her parents?
Huh-buuuuh?
Think about the logistics for a moment. 18 guys, one 11 year old girl. They weren’t all going to get their turn at once. At least a few of them would’ve had to just stand around and watch this little girl getting raped back to the stone-age before finally stepping up and getting their turn at bat. They watched. They saw the pain. They added to it of their own will.
Yes, young girls today are dressing remarkably more provocatively than they were when I was 11 (only 14 years ago…). Yes, this style of dress may be enticing to our nation’s filth. Yes, those men had a choice. Just because her parents decide to let her where a tube top, a micro-skirt, or nothing at all, doesn’t mean that she was suddenly became a magnet in a junk yard. No matter how attractive these men may have suddenly decided a child was, they still could’ve decided to be decent human beings and not forcibly violate her en masse.
Anyways, TL;DR: If an 11 year old girl is being gang-raped by 18 guys for dressing provocatively, we certainly do have a parenting problem in this nation. But it isn’t the mother of the girl who should be brought into question, it’s the 18 mothers who raised their sons to gang-rape defenseless children.
5:47 pm
You’re so right! Can’t say a thing any better than that.
2:24 pm
Rape is about power and control… it is not about sexuality.. it is NEVER the fault of the victim.. shame on the ignorance of supposedly sharp minds..
5:46 am
you are an ignorant bitch all 11 year olds ask to be raped you stupid ignorant bitch
10:10 pm
This is the way of the republicans. It’s never their fault that banks rip people off, people LET banks rip them off. There is never anything like accountability in those circles. It’s always the victim’s fault.
Is she saying girls in slacks and jeans don’t get raped? What about when a little boy is raped, was he dressed like a hooker, too?
Rape is rape and it’s come as you are. There is no dress code for rape. It is ALWAYS the fault of the RAPIST not the VICTIM.
8:09 pm
…if passidomo’s “reasoning” stands, then the harlot ann coulter and the jezebel-bubble-brained-bimbo michele bachman better strap on their cast iron chastity belts. they are certainly going to be the next gang rapees.
7:27 pm
no REAL man is provoked or aroused by an 11 year old girl OR boy dressed or undressed in any way, shape or form. Anyone who blames a rape victim clearly does not understand that rape is an act of VIOLENCE not a form of sexual activity.
6:59 pm
I apolagize for my previous post. After re-reading the post, I see you are blaming the parents and not the young girl. I back you in what you are trying to do in making the parents take responsibility in how their children are dressed for school.
6:51 pm
You STUPID moron bitch! NO GIRL ASKS TO BE RAPED! Regardless of their dress, no girl “deserves” or “asks” to be raped! How dare you imply this. Having a dress code for schools? I thought they all had them! Even back in the 80′s there were dress codes. BUT MY LORD, you have your nerve! This pisses me off to no end! I to am a victum of rape. I DID NOT ASK FOR IT, I DID NOTHING TO DESERVE IT, I DID NOTHING WRONG, yet, it happened. It is the fault of the RAPIST….Give them the responsibility for what they have done and stop trying to pass the buck to the girl! As far as the parents go, Yes, I agree, monitor their children’s attire. However, girls can walk out the door wearing one thing, and end up at school with another outfit. THOSE are the times when the girls should be sat in the office, call the parents, let them see what their children are wearing. THEN, if nothing is done, blame the parents.
10:57 am
I would like to say with Teresa, across time and space, “I DID NOT ASK FOR IT, I DID NOTHING TO DESERVE IT, I DID NOTHING WRONG, yet, it happened. [That I was raped] is the fault of the RAPIST.”
Passidomo’s line of “reasoning,” and I use the word loosely, is thoughtless and irresponsible. Of course we want to think that if we do something different from the girls or women, boys or men who are raped, that we will never have to face that same crime. But that’s not true, and forming these arbitrary separations will not keep us safe.
We would be more safe if we were to raise boys AND girls to value their entire beings, not just what hormones and steroids create, and what clothing or lack thereof reveals.
We would be more safe if we were to raise boys AND girls to value the entire beings of others, not just that which is visible, and to be responsible for their reactions to others’ appearance.
We would be more safe if we were to raise boys AND girls to have a childhood, an adolescence, and an adulthood, not a simultaneously sexually Puritanical, sexually precocious, and sexually ignorant uncharted faux adulthood from the age of eight onwards.
We would be more safe if we were to raise girls AND boys to see sexuality as something utterly distinct from violence, so that those two aspects of the human experience could NOT continue to be confused in modern culture.
We would be more safe if we were to raise girls AND boys to be both strong and gentle for themselves and others.
We would be more safe if we were to put the responsbility for rape on the rapists, not the victims or survivors. If this 11-year-old is responsible for having been raped, the infants in diapers are guilty of being provocative, as are the elders in sweatpants and sweatshirts.
Bloody insulting foolishness. If I were a man, I would be outraged that people were telling me that I was unable to control my sexual impulses.
Sex is not the problem. Clothing is not the problem. Men are not the problem. Women are not the problem. The problem is that we have conflated sex and violence, selling both as if they were soft drinks and forgotten that people matter, we have absolved rapists of any responsibility for their crimes, and we have hidden genuine safety behind religiosity, faux morality, and political banter.
6:21 pm
Fucking bitch blaming clothing on what some animal does to a child? What in the hell is going on with our pathetic government? Supposed to represent and then pass the blame onto us rather then do something. I have had enough of this crap
5:02 pm
This moron of a GOP REP….has no idea what she is taking about…That child was raped because predators attacked her…They and only they are responsible for that rape….they will rape again…they crossed a line…and in all probability they have done this before…so the idea that an 11 year old was dressed inappropriately is as asinine as this rep..1 out of 4 women will be raped …stuff those statics, GOP REP…Just hope you aren’t one of them aferall Karma is a bitch and so are you….
4:35 pm
This woman mistakenly believes that rape has anything to do with the actual sex act. She must be the kind who think that rapists are horny men who don’t have a woman.
She should be truly ashamed.
I do have to say, however, that our young girls are dressing more and more inappropriately, and I for one, would like to see them start dressing more age appropriate again.
3:58 pm
I cannot believe this woman used this as an example. This was an 11 yr old child that was raped. The only people to blame are the savages who did this to the little girl.
This woman’s ignorance is the reason these things happen. Rape is never right, no matter what!
I have to write this woman a letter and let her know my feelings. She owes this little girl and her family an apology!
3:57 pm
I think it’s quite funny all the folks name calling complaining that this lady is judgmental. Thats just priceless in an ironic sort of way.
10:45 am
preach
3:50 pm
Anyone who says that shows their ignorance and lack of compassion. Unfortunately she probably isn’t the only elected official who would hold such beliefs to make a statement like that.
Can we please vote out all the right-wing lunatics in the next election?
9:31 am
What about the left-winged lunatics..?
2:57 pm
What a judgemental bitch. Any women who says something like that should be bitch slapped back into the 1800s…her brain is there already.
2:53 pm
Rape is unacceptable, no matter what! Her age and the amount of men involved just makes it so much more horrible…castration should be mandatory in cases involving gang rapes, repeat rapists, or those who rape, target and/or sexually exploit minors.
This Woman making this statement needs to pull her head out of her butt.
That said…I am really tired of the dirty droopy diaper look the guys think is cool and as far as I am concerned make all kids in school wear UNIFORMS – they did it when my kids were in school and it took all the BS out of daily attire…no gang colors, no haves and have nots.
3:20 pm
I agree that rape is never acceptable, but I also believe that the way our children dress can draw attention from the wrong sort of people. Lets face it, our society is not like it was. Intentional or not, the way we dress and act sends out the wrong message to some guys.
3:56 pm
I agree with you. Nobody deserves to get raped, nobody at all. But there are real consequences to our actions, you never know who’s around taking note.
6:16 pm
Wrong. society must change, not women’s clothing. send message to these guys? how about their mother teaching them they are human, not monsters. should she wear a burka? what is wrong with you? this is a WAR against Women!
if you want to stand up to fight the New Womens Movement find us on facebook.
and dress anyway you like. mothers – teach your boys! or give them to someone who can.
5:43 pm
As the mom of 3 boys and 3 girls (& yes, I know where they come from and the answers to the other big-family questions people imagine they’re the first ones to have ever thought of–all two of them) ages 7 to 27, I couldn’t agree with you more. My sons grew up knowing that if the young woman they’re with says no, that means “NO!” Even if she’s stark naked and hugging your ankles. My daughters have grown up knowing their rights–AND knowing that sexual harassment or any other form of sexual exploitation hurts males just as much and is JUST AS UNETHICAL/ILLEGAL.
& As for uniforms, they’ve been de rigor in the city where my kids attend school for years now. Guess what? They do NOT equalize the haves-vs-have-nots statuses. Kids know the minute they see each other, whose uniform tees and slacks came from Walmart, and whose came from exclusive little boutiques where middle-class parents wouldn’t be allowed in the door. Gang members know exactly who’s who. Creepy people are deterred not one whit. The end result of mandating school uniforms is that parents now have to buy a second, more expensive, complete wardrobe for their children at the beginning of every school year.
2:18 am
Wait, what? Rape is about power and control, very little of it is based on sexual reasons. The way someone is dressed or how they act has nothing to do with being a victim of rape. It does not matter what the situation is, no means no. Hell, if a chick is rubbing herself on a guys crotch and then says no to sex… well that may make her a tease and/or brainless, but she does not deserve being raped. A person who rapes someone is doing it to control them, to get a sick sense of power.
I do however believe that the young generation needs to be taught respect for themselves, but I also feel they should be able to express themselves. One way all of us do this is our clothing. There is a fine line there. Yes, I do think the jeans below your arse look ridiculous, but if that’s how they want to dress, so be it. I can’t stand seeing girls and women in these skirts and dresses that barely cover their arse, but if they want to present themselves as skanks…okay. I don’t have much respect for them, but they certainly don’t deserve any abuse. Yes, there should be guidelines in schools, but they should not go overboard. They Are there to learn, but they are also learning social skills so self-expression is important.
3:35 pm
Amen to that, I agree with everything you said could not do it any better.
2:41 pm
In this next election can we put these freaking repugnant republicans out of business, once and for all?
2:40 pm
stinking republican whorebag! judgemental idiot! sorry ass bitch should know about prostitution she and her fellow conservatards are all whores. she should have to spend the night with that chortling swine Limbaugh and grab her ankles.
2:19 pm
YOU STUPID BITCH…OUT OF A DUMB FUCK WOMANS MOUTH IS DISGUSTING NOBODY DESERVES TO BE RAPED EVEN IF THEY ARE ON A NUDE FUCKING BEACH BITCH
1:57 pm
Disgusting. If this sounds like too much I’m sorry, but these people are evil.
2:50 pm
don’t worry about being too much, its not nearly enough. These people need to be stopped!
