What qualifications does Gov. Scott Walker require to get a supervisor job at the state Department of Commerce? All you need is to be his top donor’s son. Everyone else need not apply.
Just in his mid-20s, Brian Deschane has no college degree, very little management experience and two drunken-driving convictions.
Yet he has landed an $81,500-per-year job in Gov. Scott Walker’s administration overseeing environmental and regulatory matters and dozens of employees at the Department of Commerce. Even though Walker says the state is broke and public employees are overpaid, Deschane already has earned a promotion and a 26% pay raise in just two months with the state.
How did Deschane score his plum assignment with the Walker team?
It’s all in the family.
His father is Jerry Deschane, executive vice president and longtime lobbyist for the Madison-basedWisconsin Builders Association, which bet big on Walker during last year’s governor’s race.
The group’s political action committee gave $29,000 to Walker and his running mate, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, last year, making it one of the top five PAC donors to the governor’s successful campaign. Even more impressive, members of the trade group funneled more than $92,000 through its conduit to Walker’s campaign over the past two years.

calling him a criminal is extreme. It decreases the credibility of your publication.
Calling it cronyism is accurate. Even though I count many liberals as my friends, I would hesitate to to make very pointed comments.
Last I heard, conviction = criminal. As DUIs go, one might be considered a stupid mistake; any more than that, and it’s a drinking/drugs/driving habit.
criminal or not it is still inappropriate to hire a donor’s Period.
The GOP loves yelling about budgets and is cutting money to Head Start, Medicare and Medicaid but has proposed nothing to start making the huge lobby groups pay taxes. Why should the NRA for example, who spends millions on political lobbying, be tax exempt? They are the biggest but not the only group who plays politics and does not pay taxes. . Also it is time to hit the sacred upper 2% with a tax increase to the percentage they paid when Clinton was in office. It seems like the T.P. GOP cares nothing about jobs or the middle class. Only about shutting down the government.
Right on
Talk about a reeeeeely good return on investment…and get your lousy son out of the house as a bonus! Poor Wisconsin.
This is incredible. Just how stupid do legislators and governors think we are? As an independent, I have no love for either party, and this is a good example why I don’t!
That seems to be the plan… And I bet the tea-bagers are taking it as a complement.
republicans have no shame, and apparently no accountability. how dare this man ‘balance’ the budget on the backs of the public workers in his state, then hire this guy and overpay him. oh, look, it’s another overpaid public worker! again, it’s not the worker’s fault, it’s the politician!
Am I the only one who gets the impression this guy is using actions like this to metaphorically give the finger to every single person in Wisconsin?
“HA HA, I’m the boss! Whatchoo gonna do about it?!”
how am i ‘not surprised’ and ‘disgusted’ at the same time?
