Michele Bachmann announced her candidacy for President yesterday. Right now polls show that Mitt Romney and Bachmann are the two front-runners for the Republican nomination. Not many people are familiar with Michele Bachmann, so we thought we’d share some of her positions with you, in her own words. As the election gets closer, and as she gets more media exposure, we will be updating this list. If you have any quotes you’d like to add, just include them in the comments section.

Here’s our list, in no particular order (although 15 is my personal favorite);

1. ”I wish the American media would take a great look at the views of the people in Congress and find out: Are they pro-America or anti-America?”

2. “I find it interesting that it was back in the 1970s that the swine flu broke out under another, then under another Democrat president, Jimmy Carter. I’m not blaming this on President Obama, I just think it’s an interesting coincidence.” -Rep. 3.  ”If we took away the minimum wage — if conceivably it was gone — we could potentially virtually wipe out unemployment completely because we would be able to offer jobs at whatever level.”

5. ”On the morning of December 7, 1941, local St. Paulite Orville Ethier was aboard the USS Ward, a boat manned by 82 Navy reservists from St. Paul, when a small Japanese sub appeared near the entrance to Pearl Harbor. The Ward fired two shots, one of which struck and sank the sub, which constituted the first American shots of World War II. The commander of the Ward relayed a message about the incident back to military headquarters in Honolulu. The message stated “We have attacked, fired upon and dropped depth charges upon submarine operating in defensive sea area.” The message, sent more than an hour before the 8 a.m. attack on Pearl Harbor, went unheeded.

9. ”Many teenagers that come in should be paying the employer because of broken dishes or whatever occurs during that period of time. But you know what? After six months, that teenager is going to be a fabulous employee and is going to go on a trajectory where he’s going to be making so much money, we’ll be borrowing money from him.” —Michele Bachmann, 1/26/05, explaining why teenagers should pay employers for the privilege of working instead of receiving minimum wage.

    Carbon dioxide is a harmless gas? I’d like to seal her up in a room filled with it for an hour then see if she thinks it’s harmless…oh, wait…she would be dead in less than an hour…oh, well….

    Yes, we could also wipe out unemployment if we brought back slavery Rep. Bachmann. So let’s do it!!

    Like war supporters that dodged the draft need to be sent off to war to show true support, perhaps Rep. Bachmann could enter a room full of carbon dioxide to prove how harmless it is.

    You can’t forget this classic – She said that FDR caused the great depression, even though it was going on for 3 years when he got elected. This was probably the first of her differences with history that I remember.

      And her husband is as gay as a 3 dollar bill….wonder how hard it has been for him to suppress his homosexuality over the years. It probably helps that he has to harp on the same thing everyday and it keeps his sexual urges in check.

    I’m as happy as anyone to read of Bachmann’s silliness. But could you please provide the sources for each of these comments? Some are sourced, some are not.
