Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, who is running for the Republican Presidential nomination in 2012, was on CNBC yesterday to discuss the jobs report from June. During the interview she was asked whether or not she believes higher unemployment will help her chances of winning in 2012.
The host, Carl Quintanilla asked Bachmann;
“Does it strike you that as the unemployment rate goes up, your chances of winning office also go up?”
To which Bachmann replied;
“Well, that could be. Again, I hope so,”

Canter is fooling himself and You guys..
THe American People know that the Repubs are the party
is the NO party..
Canter is LYING … You can tell when he smiles as he talks..
I am from Va and I do NOT trust him..
IT is all the Repubs fault. They want to Protect the Top1%
that Get them Elected.
She is only showing her ignorance, God help us if she was to be our next president.
That is why she and republican buddies work behind the sine with corporation to ship out jobs overseas. This is not a secret.
But admiting on the media support job killing plan, obviously is an indicaton how she is underestimating the American public.
The woman is a compleat moron. She makes gaffe after gaffe, because she is too stupid to actually listen to questions, and answers the question that she wants to answer, not the question that was asked. Can you imagine this moron with her finger on the nuclear trigger?
Whore.
If she can’t express herself clearly enough for people to understand what she means she shouldn’t be considered for president.
There’s not enough of this clip present to see what she was really talking about. Posting short clips out of context only hurts your credibility. I know both sides do it, but it’s part of what keeps people stupid.
Save us from her!!!
Typical wing nut behavior.
She’s Admitting what the American public already knows. The Republican party is trying to kill the economy in order to defeat Obama in 2012!
Dead on!
Clearly she meant, “If unemployment remains high I hope tha people will look for an alternative to Obama, and I hope that alternative is me.” and not “I hope unemployment remains high so people will vote for me.” Clearly.
Look, I hate this c*^t as much as the next rational thinker but when you cherry pick quotes and take them out of context to demonize someone you’re no better then the guys on the right. And you make it easier for them to discredit you. You have enough real rope to hang Bachmann on just stick to using that.
I think it’s clear to everyone else that when she said “I hope so” she was saying that she hopes high unemployment will help her campaign. She didn’t say she hopes unemployment goes down, she hopes high unemployment helps her campaign which clearly means that she wants it to stay high.
It’s clear that she is not going to do anything to lower the employment rate, and may do whatever she can to inflate the unemployment rate.
Why do you believe she “really meant” something? The stupid bozo says idiotic stuff all the time. NEVER make excuses for stupid politicians. It just gives them more rope.
Kind of shitty that here’s a liberal site that’s papered all over with ads for “how liberalism destroys peoples and nations” and “read Ann Coulter’s columns for FREE!” Ummmm are y’all paying attention AT ALL to who is advertising on your website???
Google randomly generates the ads based on the content in the articles. Sorry about the offensive ones.
Actually Google uses a tracking system based on what content the user accesses most. So a Conservative will see adds for conservative websites and a liberal will see adds for liberal websites. for instance I see adds for Advance Auto parts all the time. This is because I buy allot of auto parts online and do allot of searches for auto parts. Google (Big Brother) knows this and gives me adds accordingly.
I see nothing but rw ads on here, and I’m far from being or reading rw crap
Out of context. She clearly meant that she hopes that people trust her with bringing unemployment down, if you listen to the whole answer.
This is how we want to beat the right? By taking things out of context? I’m not sharing this, sorry. I despise Bachmann, but you can do better.
Thanks,
Thomas
I think it’s clear to everyone else that when she said “I hope so” she was saying that she hopes high unemployment will help her campaign. She didn’t say she hopes unemployment goes down, she hopes high unemployment helps her campaign which clearly means that she wants it to stay high.
That’s not what I said. She hopes to BRING unemployment down, not she hopes unemployment GOES down before the election.
Below is the full text of her deluded self image, you posted the first few words. I’m with Brett. She thinks she the woman for the job to bring unemployment down, be a job creator. It’s a stretch to think otherwise.
Thanks,
Thomas
“Well, that could be. Again, I hope so, my candidacy is one that I’m presenting to be a job creator and to turn th eeconomy around. That’s my background. I’m a former federal tax litigation attorney. I have seen up close and personal how devastating high taxes are on businesses and on families, businesses, individuals, farmers, the regulatory burden, I’ve seen it first hand, and this is what I want to do, bring my background, skills, and expertise to actually change the econo[my]“
Uh…where does it say, ANYWHERE in that that she hopes unemployment goes down BEFORE the election? She said that she hopes high unemployment helps her election, which means she wants it to stay up and THEN she’ll do something about it. She doesn’t care about the unemployed people who are hurt in the process.
Well said, Thomas! I completely agree. I am democrat, so I’m certainly not a Bachmann fan, but c’mon people, pay attention to what is said!! This is a definite example of taking a comment out of context, listen to what she says, not what you want to hear! It’s definitely not hard to understand what she is saying; if you can’t understand it, don’t judge or comment.
Matthew is being quite literal in his title: Michele Bachmann Hopes People Will Stay Unemployed, So It Will Help Her Campaign
I dunno about you but I’d like to be employed again before Nov 2012. I am most certainly not waiting around for Bachmann to come save my butt. I put no hope or stock in her and her efforts to do anything.
What the author has said quite literally is that she doesn’t want to see an improvement in unemployment before the election because she thinks it helps her chances for getting elected. After Nov 2012 is not really her concern at the moment. Even after reading the whole context of her statement kindly posted by another I read that she feels that high unemployment doesn’t hurt her chances and may hurt Obama’s. Of course she doesn’t want it to go down!
Politics over true action. Politics over what’s actually good for the nation. That’s typical for her and many others of both parties.
