Throughout the debt ceiling debate many news stories have been put aside. But this story should have been front and center at some point. Last Tuesday night, someone firebombed a Planned Parenthood in McKinney, Texas. No one was there at the time so no one was hurt in the blast, caused by a Molotov cocktail. Protesters had been outside the clinic earlier that day, even though the clinic doesn’t provide abortions.
Planned Parenthood has been under attack ever since Republicans gained control of the House of Representatives as well as many state legislatures and governorships. They have ramped up the rhetoric and have made many attempts to defund the organization that provides women with reproductive services such as contraceptives, medical care, and even abortions. Glenn Beck and other right wingers, including pundits, activists, and even politicians have falsely accused Planned Parenthood of committing heinous crimes. This attack is just another example of right wing terrorism here in America. The right wing media has been silent about this attack. And the mainstream have ignored it because of the right wing terrorists in Congress that have been holding America hostage for months over the debt ceiling. If this had been an attack on the “pray away the gay” clinic of Marcus Bachmann, the right wing would be all over it and would be naturally accusing liberals of terrorism.
As long as we allow these extremists safe harbor in this country we can expect MORE terrorist attacks from the right wing. All in the name of so called “Christian values”. Islamic extremists are not the only terrorists in the world. There are Christian terrorists as well, and since those terrorists are in our backyard, those are the one we should be pursuing to the fullest extent of the law.
