If it seems like a week ago when I wrote about America’s major dissatisfaction with this current Congress, it’s because it was. Well, no more than four days later, and guess what–America really, really hate this Congress.
According to a new national survey, for the first time ever most Americans don’t believe their own member of Congress deserves re-election. And while the Republicans somehow managed to maintain the upper hand in the debt ceiling battle, courtesy of a dizzying array of misinformation, the party’s unfavorable rating is now at an all time high
CNN Poll:
Only 41 percent of people questioned say the lawmaker in their district in the U.S. House of Representatives deserves to be re-elected – the first time ever in CNN polling that that figure has dropped below 50 percent. Forty-nine percent say their representative doesn’t deserve to be re-elected in 2012. And with ten percent unsure, it’s the first time that a majority has indicated that they would boot their representative out of office if they had the chance today.
“That 41 percent, in the polling world, is an amazing figure. Throughout the past two decades, in good times and bad, Americans have always liked their own member of Congress despite abysmal ratings for Congress in general,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. “Now anti-incumbent sentiment is so strong that most Americans are no longer willing to give their own representative the benefit of the doubt. If that holds up, it could be an early warning of an electorate that is angrier than any time in living memory.
Despite the Koch Bros. Tea party overlords greatest efforts at ensuring the dour economy and its impuissant recovery is directed at President Obama, at 48 percent the president’s approval rating remains fairly steady. Speaking of the million moron army of history and spelling bunglers, it seems that Americans’ views of the tea party movement have also turned more negative, with 51 percent saying they have a negative view of the two-year-old limited government and anti-tax “grassroots” movement, with favorable ratings dropping from 37 percent down to 31 percent (CNN).
In brief, the Republican Congress’ likability is somewhere in between herpes and flesh-eating bacteria. Conversely, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, the top Democrat in the chamber, both of which never really had stunning numbers, the public’s view of them have remained essentially unchanged in the wake of the debt ceiling debate. Needless to say, 2012 should be a very interesting year.

Part Two: The Dems:
In the ‘real’ world, the traditional nasty politicking also must be addressed. And I have to voice this idea, I feel somebody has to put it out:
President Obama should not seek a second term.
No, I’m not a Repug troll. I was one of those who was incredibly happy to see evidence that perhaps real change was coming to America. I was, unfortunately, correct. Real change has come to America – just not the one I voted for – and thought I had won. A true classic “be careful what you wish for” moment… I feel like I’m in a deja vu zone that stretches back to W, without the accent. I’m sure (and another post elsewhere on this site details this) that he has accomplished much good in his time in office – but he has not stood up for We, the People.
But that is NOT the issue I’m addressing here. I’m talking about the elephant in the room, the racist backlash that has consumed much of the Tea Party and the South.
Consider the core voter demographic. For many years, the South has voted Democrat. But the the election of a Black president changed all that! All the dormant (and less-dormant) racial hatreds that have been festering since the Civil War, and again from the sixties Second Emancipation, were aroused. Fox preaches its gospel of distortion and lies to the powerless and – voila! We have a right-wing zombie South, suckered in by the Koch brothers relentless fascist campaign. They have become true Koch-suckers.
How are we going to win them back? We simply cannot do it with a black candidate. Many of them will never even admit it to themselves, but they will never vote for a ‘man of color.’ They will find a way (Fox will make it VERY easy for me) to decide that even though it will cost me my house, my job, my savings, my college fund, my SUV and my daughter – at least he guy next door won’t marry the guy next door.
Of course, this is not going to happen. Mr. Obama will seek a second term, and may well even win the election. If the choice is between him and ANY of the current crop of GOP puppets I will have to either vote for a third party candidate or eventually not vote for President at all. Because so far, I have seen NO progress on ANY of the important items that were on his (my) to-do list: we’re still in multiple wars, and even one new one that we had NO business getting into. No one has been arrested for war crimes, we still condone torture and EVERY demand of the GOP has been handed over. I fail to see a difference anymore. I used to say that at least the Dems used lube when they screwed you, but after the artificial debt ‘crisis’ it seems even the tube of K-Y has run dry.
Where is the politician who will represent US, the U.S., not Fox and the Koch cabal?
Oh, yeah; on the one hand, a million voters – on the other, a million dollars. Hmmm… No wonder I feel marginalized…
WANTED: A STRONG PROGRESSIVE PRESIDENT WITH SOME NEGOTIATING SKILLS AND THE ABILITY TO USE THE BULLY PULPIT. SOME KNOWLEDGE OF TACTICAL WARFARE AND STRATEGY WOULD BE A BIG PLUS.SOMEONE IS NEEDED IMEDIATELY TO REPLACE THE CURRENT ONE WHO DOESN’T POSSES THESE SKILLS.
DO I NEED TO SAY MORE?
Perhaps this isn’t the best time or place to make this comment, but perhaps the problem isn’t so much congress alone. Granted congress has the power to make laws, but what of the enforcement of any laws already in place that normally prevents such BS? Why are we only blaming congress when the entire Court system is going rouge right behind our backs. Consider this, politicians are typically attorneys or businessmen who tend to nominate judges who so happen to also be attorneys. It is well said that one does not go to law school to learn law, but to make connections. We have a Court system that is so absorbed by the idea of their own personal power that we end up with Court rulings that say result in: 4th U.S. amendment void in Indiana (5/12/11 Indiana Supreme Court); 7 of anything is now legally greater than 31 of the same(12/17/10 U.S. District Court [Federal Court]); 1 day now equals 60 minuets as opposed to the previously understood 24 hours (7/28/11 Massachusetts Superior Court); Any action required by law is considered completed so long as there is intention to act without any real action, i.e a bill is now completely paid if you can show that you intend(ed) to pay said bill (7/21/11 Massachusetts Superior Court). With Judges and attorneys turning rouge more and more, the questions that should be raised are whether or not the country can enforce it’s own laws CONSTITUTIONALLY or is has the government and legal system been hijacked by criminals and terrorists? By what it seems, more people feel it’s the later and if that is the case we need to make serious changes here before the issue turns into a blood bath. If any of you disagree, I am open to hearing how you believe that judges and congressmen are masters of time and space and are unaffected by simple axioms such as 7x < 31x and 1 day = 60min. Also, if you don't believe me, i DO have the documents to prove all of these claims.
the real problem is the overall corruption that we as Americans have shamefully turned into a rewards program. too many of us refuse to do anything about corruption or others having their rights taken away unlawfully because of the "it doesn't affect me" logic. What ever happened to "one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all"? there is no justice when we allow corruption with the hopes of one day benefiting from it. It is the same mentality that allowed the Nazis to force other groups into concentration camps or the like. Remember always the words of Martin Niemoller
"First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me."
There is a lot of truth in what you say, and I dread the 2012 election. If 2010 was a result of some Americans being upset by Congress, can’t imagine how bad this election will turn out to be. I can see the winners now-Palin Pres. and Bachmann VP…
Now I am depressed.
Well, first off, the cartoon truly IS a joke. Can you picture the GOP billionaires with their sleeves rolled up and muscles rippling as they prepare to actually WORK? C’mon, dude, that’s the Dems’ schtick. These fat cats haven’t put in an honest day’s labor in their lives…
Other than that, you got it right. America hates what has been done in the name of the rich. Only Faux ‘News’ can spin those facts to make it sound like the wealthy are the good guys, and America’s saviors. So the ongoing problem (beyond the buying and selling of our politicians) is that there exists a major television network owned by a billionaire whose agenda is to disseminate lies, distortions and half-truths to promote the agenda of the fascist religious right and the Koch brothers we-own-the-world agenda.
Sing along with the Koch-suckers:
We Own the World…
We Own the Children…
We Own the People who could make a brighter day
So we’ll keep Taking
There’s a choice we’re making
We’re saving our own lives
at the cost of all of you…
If we are to stop the lies, we MUST shut down Fox. Take it OFF the air, permanently. There is an entire generation of people who actually believe this shit. As intended.
The GOP has gone rogue and must be put down like the mad dog it has become. They’re winning, unless we stop them – hard. Permanently. And NOW…
