Earthquake Aftershock: Eric Cantor’s Hatred Of Government Is More Important Than The Safety Of His Constituents

So you know how back in March, following that devastating earthquakes that hit Japan, John Boehnor’s slimy elf-like errand boy, Eric Cantor, had the gall to defend Republican plans to cut funding from the USGS and warning systems to help in case of a disaster?

Well, it turns out the epicenter of the aberrant 5.9 magnitude earthquake that slammed across the east coast yesterday is located squarely in Rep. Cantor’s seventh congressional district.  Worse yet, the Anna 1 and 2 nuclear power plants are also located in the Congressman’s district.

Partial Map of Cantor’s district

It seems the North Anna nuclear power station in the middle of Cantor’s district is only built to withstand a 5.9-6.1 magnitude earthquake and has no seismographs due to budget cuts in the 1990s. But Eric Cantor wants to defund the agency that monitors quake activity because, well…it makes the bottom line of billionaire industrialists and Teabagger Republican sugar daddies, David and Charles Koch, look good.

According to a Raw Story report, The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission rates the plant as the seventh most likely to receive core damage from a quake. But they say the chances of that are only 1 in 22,727.

This Republican Congress has jumped at every opportunity to dismantle the most basic functions of government that seek to benefit the greater good of society as a whole, so this latest act in virulent anti-government policy is hardly surprising. But the very fact that yesterday’s quake occurred in Mr. Cantor’s district and poses a major threat to the structural integrity of the Anna nuclear power plants might compel the oleaginous one to reconsider his earlier stance.

Mr. Cantor is currently leading a little neocon field trip in Israel.

    Oh, the tangled webs…

Cantor’s deity is sending a message to his constituents, but they’re not listening.

They got what they deserved when they put Cantor into his elected position. Now they get their deity’s wrath.

    I find it amusing.

Perhaps if Mr. Cantor hates government so much, he should consider NOT working for it.
    Just a thought.

My thoughts exactly!!! You couldn’t get him out of there with a bull dozer

Yeah, I’ve always wondered why they haven’t tried to pass a bill for a pay-cut for all Members of Congress.

Actually I find the article you posted about his trip to Israel much scarier than the earthquake, but then I was born and raised in California, not 30 miles from the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant.

    ******from the article******
Majority Leader Cantor stated, “I am pleased to be bringing so many of our new Members of Congress to Israel so that they can learn firsthand about Israel and the important role our key ally plays in the Middle East. The United States and Israel share similar core values of democracy, human rights and a strong national defense. These shared values contribute to our strong relationship and allow our two countries to work closely together to protect the interests and security of both of our nations. By visiting Israel in-person, Members will better understand the importance of the U.S.-Israel relationship and our role in promoting stability in this critical region.”
Whip McCarthy stated, “Israel has long been a beacon of freedom, democracy and capitalism in a part of the world sorely in need of these qualities. They have been one of our closest allies throughout the years, and our relationship with Israel continues to be one of critical importance. We must always remain committed to our good friends and continue to work to increase understanding around the world of the difficulties that face one of our most important allies on a daily basis.”

I am sorry, and yes I have some understanding of what has happened in the past; but Israel over the past decade or so has slipped backwards in its ‘commitment to democracy’. over a decade ago both Israel and the PLA signed what I thought was both a peace accord and a plan to create a new Palestine for the Arabs who were conquered after loosing to Israel in the several wars fought after its formation. only now Israel is not keeping its word. Mr. Cantor, I think you need to learn what democracy, human rights, Honor, and freedom really mean.

I’m sorry, but capitalism is NOT what the world needs, it will be the destruction of the world.
