Paul Ryan Locks Out Jobless Constituents After Refusing To Meet With Them

Republican Congressman Paul Ryan

Paul Ryan is supposed to be just a normal guy who faithfully represents his district in Wisconsin. But that’s not what his constituents think about him now. They’re angry. They’re angry about unemployment and the fact that jobs are becoming scarce. They’re angry because Ryan hasn’t lifted one finger to create a job in Wisconsin or anywhere else. Yet he expects his constituents to allow him to keep his job. Fat chance.

Many of Paul Ryan’s constituents back home in his Wisconsin district have decided that they want to meet with Ryan personally so that there will be a face on the unemployment statistic that Ryan is always flouting when criticizing President Obama, even though Ryan himself hasn’t done anything about it despite being part of the Republican House Majority in Congress.

They call themselves the Ryan Seven. Seven unemployed constituents who are barely getting by. Each member has a family and responsibilities that are not cheap. They have bills to pay and need food to eat. And the amount of money each survives with on a weekly basis, around $300, is probably what Paul Ryan spends on a bottle of wine every night.

They are there every day, waiting and demanding to speak with the man who claims to represent them. They tried scheduling a meeting and the request was ignored. They tried sitting in Ryan’s office all day, to no avail. He never showed up. They wanted to stay in his office all night, but the police were called and they left peacefully. They then showed up the next day, only to find the doors locked. The office was open, the unemployed constituents just were no longer welcome. So, they waited outside. Still, Ryan never showed up. They were then informed that only paying tenants could use the restrooms, which further hindered their efforts to see Ryan. Arriving the next day, they were informed by police that parking had been restricted by the building owner and that any unauthorized vehicles would be towed and ticketed. When asked on what authority the police could prevent access to a public office, they responded that the lot and building are private property and the landlord has the right to do as he pleases with it.

For these unemployed constituents, it’s beginning to look like Paul Ryan has no desire to meet with them to hear what they have say. They want answers. “I’m tired of struggling to support my family. I’m tired of not having a decent job that provides benefits and I’m tired of being ignored by my congressman” says Shanon Molina, one of the Seven. At one point the Ryan staff even tried to intimidate them. “We were told we had 15 minutes to fill out a request form for a meeting, and then we had to leave or be arrested,” Molina said. “Apparently our presence is distracting them from helping other constituents.” Molina is a mother and was an administrative assistant until 2008 when she became unemployed. 18 months later she was employed briefly but once again, found herself unemployed. She doesn’t receive unemployment benefits either, because she didn’t work long enough to qualify for them again. “I’m at the end of my rope, and Congressman Ryan needs to understand that,” she explained with tears in her eyes.

It’s clear that Paul Ryan doesn’t represent the people of Wisconsin. He doesn’t care about them or the hardships they’re going through. People are having a hard enough time struggling to survive and all they want is to meet with Paul Ryan face to face. They want him to look them in the eye and tell them he’s working hard on their behalf to get them back to work so that they can adequately care for their families. But he has abandoned them. The people he truly represents aren’t the small town people that elected him to office, but the corporate CEO’s who are paying him handsomely to write more tax loopholes into the tax code. It is really sad that a man as young as Ryan has already forgotten where he came from and the voters that elected him to represent their interests. Instead of fighting for jobs for his constituents, Ryan fights to harm them even more by voting to strip away their Medicare and Social Security, voting to slash their health care funds, benefits, pensions, wages, and collective bargaining rights. Now he doesn’t even want to meet with the part of his constituency struggling the most. And his actions are speaking louder than any words he could possibly say to them at this point.

Lyin’ Ryan needs to go on the unemployment rolls. Easy to do: first, don’t re-elect, if possible, recall. Second, revoke his standing before the Bar – oh wait, he doesn’t have a law degree, even though he is responsible for trying to pass draconian fascist laws that would further cripple this nation. OK, just BOYCOTT RYAN… No job, no shoes, no shirt, no service. “Sorry sir, we don’t serve YOUR kind here.’.”

This country needs a massive surge of awareness on the part of the people who vote for people like him. I hope the Ryan Seven perservere.

Why would he bother? He has a job. Ryan, you need to start answering to people. That comes with the job. Remember? Oh yeah, you were too busy when they taught that, right? Loser.

    Paul Ryan. Un-Republican. Un-American. Un-Christian.

    He’s a GOP-bagger, and as such, doesn’t care a whit about middle-class and/or unemployed citizens.
He is in it for himself, and he knows that the key to keeping the cash rolling in for his re-election campaign is to serve his corporate masters, the Koch-head Bros.

    Can this guy be recalled?

Yes, he can be recalled in 2012. Preparations are under way, from what I hear.

Does anyone really think that Paul Ryan represents a district in Wisconsin or the people who live there? Of course not. He represents corporations (‘corporate people’ according to Mitt Romney). He and the rest of the GOP take their marching orders from the big money contributors and all the rest of us rabble can go to hell.

And people have been pushing him to run for President? He will be lucky to keep his current job. Adefeat or him would be sweet—then he can taste the bitterness of Republican policies about doing nothing to create jobs. Republicans want to crash the economy for their own selfish goals.
