It's a Democrat! It's a moderate! Hell no! It's Bernie Sanders!!
Awarded to true Progressive Bernie Sanders for introducing a Bill that would eliminate the payroll cap that keeps the wealthy from paying into Social Security for any income over $106,800.
To keep Social Security strong for another 75 years, Sanders’ legislation would apply the same payroll tax already paid by more than nine out of 10 Americans to those with incomes over $250,000 a year.
President Obama is on record as approving of this idea, Democrats can’t possibly object to it so the only obstacle is Grover Norquist the Republican Party.
Shockingly, the same group of people that complain, nonstop, that not everyone is paying their fair share of taxes will, without a shred of doubt in my mind, oppose this bill with their dying breath.
After all, why should the rich have to pay taxes on ALL of the money they earn? That’s for the little people! The very idea that you and I have our entire paycheck taxed while the “job creators” (that aren’t creating a damn thing except poverty) should only be taxed on a fraction of what they steal earn (I think i’ll stick with steal) is so deeply against the grain of what this country stands for it makes me physically ill.
No doubt the same tired whining arguments of “but they need that money to create jobs!” will ring forth from the mouthpiece that is Fox “News.” Perhaps they will trot out the old stand by of “class warfare!” Maybe, if they get bored, we’ll hear how Social Security is just an evil Ponzi scheme.
What they WON’T do is admit that 50% of the elderly lived in abject poverty before the advent of Social Security. It’s roughly 10% now. For any conservative readers, 10% is significantly less than 50%.
What they WON’T do is admit their real objection to SS is the very essence of what it means to be a conservative: “Why should I have to pay for other people less fortunate than me? I got mine, screw you!”
Bernie Sanders, because you plant the trees whose shade you know you shall never sit in, Congratulations!! You’re my hero!!

Bernie Sanders is one of the few remaining officials in congress not beholden to big corporations and money. I can’t remember the last time I’ve heard him talk where I disagreed with him.
