Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the political water, the birthers returned. Or, maybe they never left. On April 27, President Obama released his Long Form Birth Certificate. Other than Donald Trump taking credit for the birth certificate, we’ve had relative silence from the birthers.
Well, maybe they didn’t really disappear.
Just a month after Obama released his birth certificate, Birther Conspiracy Theorist in Chief, Jerome Corsi released his book, “Where’s the Birth Certificate,” which of course, claimed that the President is ineligible to hold office. The book debuted at number six on the New York Times Best Seller List.
Just yesterday, Arizona’s ultra-controversial Sheriff, Joe Arpaio, has assembled a “birther posse,” just to make sure the President isn’t an illegal from Kenya, I assume.
Crazy eyed immigrant and Queen of the Birthers, Orly Taitz, wants to run against Dianne Feinstein. While I’m no fan of Feinstein, at least she is sane.
Winthrop University in South Carolina recently conducted a poll. Included in their findings:
Among SC Republicans/Republican Leaners
- Almost 75% Say Term “Socialist” Describes President Well or Very Well,
- 36% Say He Was Definitely or Probably Born in Another Country
- And Nearly 30% Say Obama’s a Muslim
Oh, and there are the real bottom-feeding idiots, who don’t know that Hawaii is a state! I’m not making this up… want to say it was on Rachel Maddow’s show awhile back… a poll of birthers showed that a good portion of them said that Hawaii is not part of the U.S. That’s really scary. Either they really are that dumb, or our educational system is failing miserably. For God’s sake, I learned all 50 states when I was in about the second grade.
Somewhat related, I read not too long ago, that a good percentage of Americans don’t know that New Mexico is a state. I guess the point is, you can’t underestimate the, um, “naivety” of the American people.
Logic, truth, facts, rationality – none of these matter to Tea Partiers. IF they really understood the picture they try to portray, half of them would cut and run – and vote Dem – the other half would be forced to acknowledge their racist, redneck roots.
This is the most ignorant of the lot. And/or the most desperate. Just the thought that a Black man in such a lofty position disturbs them down to their country-fried marrow.
I have been of the position that Mr. Obama should consider not running for a second term for two reasons – 1: He has wimped out way too much and failed to do what I thought I was voting for, to backtrack on the torture/rendition, punish the criminal Bush/Cheney cabal. and 2: The Dems lost the South when they put a Black man in the top slot. Not nice, too damn bad and all that, and under ‘normal’ voting conditions (a rational GOP, not the Tea Crazies) I’d say, “Who cares, rednecks are still fighting the civil war, fuck ‘em.” But our number one national priority MUST be to defeat the Koch-fueled fascist takeover, and if that means backtracking a step in equal rights to prevent EVERYONE’s rights from being trampled on, I was of the opinion that this would be the one unexpected step that would take the wind out of the GP’s rhetoric. No recommendation as to WHO to replace him with, just give the ‘necks someone they can support so we can bust the billionaires’ balls.
But I am beginning to think that the Birther Conspiracy is sufficiently ignorant, obvious and mean-spirited that it may have a significant deleterious effect on the GOP mainstream voters who are already asking themselves, “Are we SURE we want to vote for an obvious racist fascist?”
Besides, they Birthers are at odds with the Ahhnulds, who want to repeal that citezenship requirement so they can elect the ex-Governator…

These idiots have no idea what a legitimate BC even consists of. They are relying on the description of a Lib wing-nut (Berg) who cites “Entertainment Tonight” as a news source!
The fact is that it is up to each state to decide what constitutes a legal BC in their state. Period. A copy of the paperwork that is submitted to the Dept of Health used to be certified, and that was what was considered to be a legal BC. It hasn’t been that way for a long time.
Now, the paperwork is submitted to the Dept of Health, that information is entered into a database, and when a copy of the BC is requested, by those who lawfully are entitled to one, they print off a copy using the form that was in place when the copy was requested.
This means that a baby born in the same week as someone who requests a copy of their BC, will get them BOTH printed on the same form. The Dept of Health do not go back to the original paperwork and make a certified copy.
The people who still believe that Obama was not born in Hawaii, do not use reality in their lives. At least in this situation. And, no matter what facts and documentation are brought out to verify that Obama was born in Hawaii, these same nutcases with find a way, in their minds, to deny that it’s true. I would like to say “poor deluded people” but they are more venal than that.
Let the Birthers waste their money and time on this hog wash. They won’t take one vote away from Obama. It only makes Obama’s opponents look more foolish and Obama more reasonable by comparison.
Do you really think there are any undecided voters who will think “Gee, I’d like to vote for Obama, but I’m just not sure if either of his birth certificates are authentic”.
