All strategies from the GOP to influence upcoming elections via voter suppression is becoming increasingly more clear.
In 2008 the African-American vote coupled with majorities in other voting blocks led to the election of Barack Obama. The African American vote, while solidly for candidate Obama could not, and did not, carry the election. The numbers just do not add-up that 96% of African-American voters could carry the election for either set of candidates. The Hispanic vote and Asian vote also went for Obama. The GOP will never appeal to majorities in either of those ethnic groups. The Grand Old Party will also not carry a large majority of white voters. So, what is a conservative party to do?
Attack voting blocks that seem ‘low hanging fruit’ for their behind closed doors strategies. Strategy: suppress African-American and Hispanic votes!
Last evening The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell broadcast a poignant segment related to voter suppression.
If you have seen the segment no need to re-view it. If you have not watched the segment, inform yourself.
How more serious can it get? In the United States of America we have people suppressing the right to vote. The plan to leverage Citizens United via one half a billion in campaign sponsorship contributions,. ACORN, the largest voter registration organization ever in the history of the nation, dead (Fox News, Breitbart and others). Public Unions under attack. Threats to Social Security and Medicare. A growing sickness of religious doctrine that has dangers written all over it.
The list goes on and on.
The seriousness is clear. If the GOP takes over the Senate and the Presidency, our world will forever take a slide that has no return.
The reports from MSNBC, must be hitting home with democrats in Congress. HUFFPOST has published an article that speaks to measures to combat voter suppression.
It is a shame that CNN does not at least cover the suppression in some way. I do not expect CNN producers for John King and Candy Crowley to report on voter suppression. If no producer investigates voter suppression, the network runs the risk of losing their ‘middle of the Road’ badge, if they do not cover the issue.

I live in Phoenix AZ, the office that issues state IDs is our DMV. The office of the DMV that service downtown Phoenix was shut down. It now takes several hours to get to the DMV offices still open as they are all in the suburbs. This effectively suppresses the vote in AZ since many are too poor or too hassled to get to the outlying offices to get their ID renewed. The office that was closed served a base of poor whites and minorities. The offices that remain open do not. They serve wealthy SUV owning white suburbanites. This is a real problem, it has had a real impact on my life, and I am angry about this.
