Rick Santorum Pledges To Ban Government Funding Of Contraceptives, Says Sex Should Only Be For Procreation
Rick Santorum is continuing his crusade to interfere in the personal lives of women. In an interview with CaffeinatedThoughts.com editor Shane Vander Hart, Santorum pledged to ban federal funding for contraceptives because he thinks sex should only be for procreation.
“One of the things I will talk about, that no president has talked about before, is I think the dangers of contraception in this country,” the Republican Presidential candidate said. “It’s not okay. It’s a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be. [Sex] is supposed to be within marriage. It’s supposed to be for purposes that are yes, conjugal…but also procreative. That’s the perfect way that a sexual union should happen…This is special and it needs to be seen as special.”

In other words, protected sex is bad and Rick Santorum is going to make sure everyone only has sex to make babies. This is a horrible invasion of privacy and puts women in danger since many contraceptives also prevent sexually transmitted diseases. What would stop Santorum from banning the use of contraceptives altogether?
But here’s a question I’d like to ask the former senator. If sex is just for procreation, does that mean Santorum has only had sex eight times in his life? That’s not exactly a healthy sexual relationship with the woman he’s married to. Perhaps they secretly use contraceptives? Some may think these questions are an invasion of Santorum’s privacy. But as long as Santorum continues to violate the private sex lives of millions of women and men across the country, we have the right to ask questions about his own. Fair is fair, right Rick?

Santorum is doing a good deed in the long run by increasing the rate that the USA is secularizing.
Wow…I am at a loss. I understand that people are raised differently, but I have to wonder how Santorum could feel this stance is good for the population? Making contraceptives inaccessible is not going to stop people from having sex. It is just going to increase the transmission of STD’s, unwanted pregnancies and the number of abortions sought. Again, how does this make things better for America?
There are forms of sex that don’t lead to pregnancy, but most are not good/comfortable for the woman. They only work well for the man. Perhaps that is the idea: make it so that women don’t enjoy sex, but men get the same amount of pleasure out of it, so that the women are “servicing” the men instead of having enjoyment for themselves.
I wouldn’t be surprised. Get those women to do everything BUT what could get them pregnant. Force them to do it with the threat of maiming or death from pregnancy and birthing.
Ok… This logic is so screwed up I don’t even know where to begin pointing out the errors. Without contraception, there would be so many more welfare babies out there taking up more tax payers money. I know I use birth control to regulate my hormones, not just to prevent my 7 month old from becoming a sister this early in her life and I know a lot of other women out there use it for the same. I think I’d also like to know how many times he has had sex with his wife and if only 8 like people said, how many other lovers his wife has had on the side.
I was wondering two things.
What does Mama Palin think of Rick’s stance on pre-marital sex?
And what does he want. He never had a real chance of the nomination and I would think even less now. Even Republicans have sex! So what is he positioning himself for? Special Envoy to the Pope maybe. He must be up to something!
While this article is clearly left-wing, I do not consider myself a strong believer in either side of the debate. There are, however, many flaws in this article.
First, the article itself doesn’t mention Santorum’s religion. People are raised in a certain way and believe what they believe, and at least he believes strong enough to make a true stance on it. That said, I think everyone has their own stances and the government regulation of those stances shouldn’t occur.
Secondly, for everyone who is saying “OMG HE HAS ONLY HAD SEX 8 TIMES!”, you obviously don’t know much about sex. A woman does not get pregnant EVERY time she has sex. In fact, the time that a woman can actually conceive is far less than the time she cannot conceive.
Finally, I say to the article that before it gets put on the web, at least look over it to see if maybe your political views are getting in the way of your logical writing capabilities. I agree with the main point that Santorum is going too far with this, but please at least make some actual arguments other than the fact that he is right-wing and you don’t like that.
First: Santorum is Catholic. Catholics believe that every sperm is sacred, which is a doctrine preached by a bunch of “celibate” men who know nothing about real life, i.e. relationships and raising children. (I was raised Catholic so I can say this). He has no right to impose HIS religious beliefs on others, especially if they don’t agree with his.
Second: This is called sarcasm. Don’t take the writer’s words literally. (I suggest watching Monty Python’s “The Meaning of Life” to learn more about why every sperm is sacred and how often people have sex).
Finally: Re-read the first and second statement.
Santorum is Catholic, yes. But my point is that this article didn’t mention that. I know he is using his morals in his politics (which, btw, is not uncommon), but I am not bashing him or his moves. I am bashing this article and how very poorly it is written. He shouldn’t push his beliefs, but he is not doing this, so that debate doesn’t matter. He isn’t trying to make people Catholic, he is trying to do what he believes is right. Some people want weed legalized, he wants to make sure his ideals on premarital sex are upheld.
Sarcasm. Some people do it well, like the writers of Monty Python. Others are awful at it, like the writer of this article. Just saying.
Finally: stop thinking you are smart.
Do you have a source for this?
I’m not sure the hardcore Repubs will jump on this bandwagon. This ventures out into the realm of mental illness. What an idiot.
This tells me WAY more about Frothy’s personal life than I ever wanted to know!
Yet another Republican religious fundamentalist. At least he’s honest bout it.
OMG! How could anyone actually vote for this fucking moron. Conservatives vote for people like this and really want to get offended when someone call them the idiots they are.
If only his mother and father had believed that sex was for procreation…
it’s the Xian arrogance, the heart of the ENTIRE morass – SEX! That religious anathema, the right-winger’s most hated action – pleasure. The justification for this view goes directly to the heart of what is wrong with organized religion; it attempts to make us feel guilty so we can be controlled.
Santorum, stay the fuck out of my bedroom, if you want to keep your own ‘procreational parts…’
