Uh-oh! The Right must really be getting scared of the wildfire phenomena of the Occupy movement: They’ve called out the big guns. If fear-mongering, name-calling, smear tactics and police brutality won’t get rid of the protesting peasants then surely Republican Jesus™ can!
As we all know, Republican Jesus™ is a big fan of the rich and despises the poor, so it’s only natural he would simply HATE a populist movement that stands against the abuses of the Wall St. Calling upon the same magical powers that Rick Perry called upon to unsuccessfully put out the Texas fires, Tony “don’t call me a homophobe” Perkins, head of the Family Research Council (an official winner of the prestigious SPLC “Hate Group” award!) had this to say:
May God prevent these radical organizers from stirring revolution and distracting voters from the elections and keeping watch on our elected leaders (Num 16:1-14; Is 1:4-6; Pr 12:11-12; Mt 26:41; Eph 4:28; 1 Tim 6:3-10; Heb 13:5-6).
And then a week later:
May God quell the anger of this sad collage of people, stirred up by radical ideologues, encouraged by the press and even misguided officials, and cause it to fizzle. May it backfire as some experts predict, and may God send believers to bring Good News to these people and lead many to faith and peace in Christ! (Ps 2:1 ff; 76:1-12; Pr 29:8-16; Hos 4:6; Mt 5:21-22; Mk 6:34; Jn 10:10-16; Jas 1:20)
“Distracting voters from the elections”? You mean distracting them for the distractions don’t you, Mr. Perkins? It simply wouldn’t do to have people focusing on real issues, like who, exactly, is preventing job creation and cutting public services while giving enormous tax cuts to the wealthiest among us. It’s far better to have them focused on “Socialism!”, “Death panels!” and “MUSLIMS!!!!” Don’t forget the all important job creating mega issues of gay marriage and abortion. Those will surely fix the economy!
In the meantime, we’ll sit back and look upon the debasing of your beliefs for such crass imaginary political gains and shake our heads at how petty you and your brand of Christianity really are.

“I think that it’s perfectly legitimate and valid to wonder and question if conservatives ACTUALLY pray to the same Jesus as sane/regular people do. My Jesus/God is what Peter said and more. ”
It is more than legitimate and very valid to question even the existence of this person who all the arguing about as to who is right. Especially since all this person’s supposed words were written from word of mouth decades and generations after the supposedly occurred.

Currently I cannot claim to be a Christian as I do not accept that people were born in sin, nor do I believe in Salvation, but as a person raised in the Judaic-Christian tradition, I believe that “God is Love” and that as JFK said, “On earth, God’s work is done by man.” (I think he meant “humankind.” I do not believe as a woman I get to skate on this. I am expected to serve my fellow human beings.)
I was told in college in a New Testament class that the Hebrew Bible was the Old Covenant that God made with his people. Then he sent His son who died for us. To me, it is not because we are sinners, but as a gift to show us His ultimate sacrifice. This was a “New Covenant” that God was making with Her people. (God is a spirit and we are made in His/Her image so as a female the Spirit of God can well be illustrated with the use of the feminine pronoun, Her.) Jesus showed God’s Love to everyone He met, even in his anger at the dishonest moneychangers in the Temple, He wanted them to be more loving and caring—not selfish and greedy.
Calling all CHRISTIAN PATRIOTS,..
There’s a lot of folks these days who want to ‘brandy’ the Bible, when they argue with me.
They call themselves CHRISTIANS.
Yet,.. the books they ‘thump me over the head with’ are invariably from the OLD TESTAMENT.
The books of the OLD TESTEMENT are indeed, in the Bible,..
They’re also in the Talmud, and the Koran. (almost unchanged)
This is the book of the Jews and the Muslims.
Lot’s of ‘fire and brimstone’,.. lots of ‘judgementalism’.
Great for ‘beating the shit out of somebody ‘verbally’.
But WE’RE CHRISTIANS.
We have a complete set of DIFFERENT books.
Mathew, Mark, Luke and John.
We’re BETTER than those folks,..
So when you discuss the Bible with ME,… leave the Old Testament at home.
By doing this, I as a liberal, can take most of the ‘bullets’ out of your gun.
See, Jesus didn’t get upset with ANYBODY,..
Not even the Romans who put him to death.
He was all about Love, and generosity (charity), forgiveness, etc, etc,…
Oppps,… I’m wrong,..
I’ve made a mistake,…
HE DID get upset at somebody,..
Do YOU remember who?????
Yeah, a good Christian like yourself caught my error right away,..
Jesus was upset with the MONEYLENDERS.
He didn’t have much use for THEM.
Ya know,… I think he just might ‘take a stand’ on this OWS business.
And I don’t think he’d come down on the side of the banks.
Do you??????
How do YOU think he’d feel about the foreclosures?
As a Christian, (Catholic) It shocks me how silent the priests are at church, in a time when people are standing out in the cold to protest the wrong doing of the greedy, against the hardworking, the disenfranchised and the poor, aka God’s children. The Church for the most part refuses to take a stance, even though everything these Occupy people are doing is very much in line with the teachings of Christ. I’m baffled by this…What’s up with that? Is it because they know some people are pro OWS and others are against, and they don’t want to do or say anything to upset the regular flow of dollars making their way into the basket each week? I’m not Catholic bashing here… I’m sharing my confusion… Am I wrong! I have always said that if every American was as devout in upholding our rights in the constitution, as they are in their religion, this country would be a haven, the kingdom of god come to earth. Anybody who is a Christian, should support, OWS financially, morally, physically and any other way possible. These determined people who only want political and economic justice restored to our country for all, are being maligned, debased, criticized, etc., by whom, the powerful, controlling media giants, and the mega wealthy who own and or support them. Anybody, any organization that takes a safe or unsupportive stance on this is UnAmerican and certainly not Christian in any true sense. That’s just my opinion for what it’s worth.
Well, don’t forget. The Christian deity is a well-documented genocidal maniac. This fits quite well into that meme.
Sorry, Jesus was a Democrat! Feed the hungry, heal the sick…
