Just a few hours after attending an event in support of Michele Bachmann, State Senator and Iowa Chairman of the Bachmann campaign, Kent Sorenson, threw his support to Ron Paul.
Referring to Ron Paul as the “clear choice” Sorenson stated that his decision to endorse Paul was an excruciating one. Here’s part of his statement.
“I still maintain an immense amount of respect for Michele. The reasons are many. She’s never betrayed conservatives on issues like taxes, the Right to Life, and the Second Amendment. So over the past few months, I have been saddened at the dismissive way she’s been treated among some conservatives especially after winning the Iowa Straw Poll.
But the fact is, there is a clear top tier in the race for the Republican nomination for President, both here in Iowa and nationally. Ron Paul is easily the most conservative of this group.
The truth is, it was an excruciatingly difficult decision for me to decide between supporting Michele Bachmann and Ron Paul at the beginning of this campaign.”
Ron Paul may not be as conservative as the right wing wants him to be. Despite signing a pledge to ban abortion, pro-life groups question Paul’s commitment to use the federal government to violate the personal lives of women, whereas Bachmann clearly would actually ban abortion, making her the most conservative candidate.
This is a huge blow to the Bachmann campaign. Michele Bachmann was really counting on winning Iowa but with the sudden defecting of her Iowa campaign chairman to the surging Paul campaign, it surely looks like the end of the Bachmann crazy train.
