Guess what, Fox and the Tea Party, your attempt at demonizing progressives isn’t working. Americans love us! In a Pew poll, ‘progressive’ was the most popular political term, at a whopping 67% seeing the word in a positive light and just 22% as negative. Next was the word ‘conservative,’ at 62% positive and 30% negative. The word ‘liberal’ is more popular than unpopular, with 50% and 30% respectively.
‘Libertarian,’ the often perceived word du jour, was the second least popular word, at 38% positive and 37% negative. It was followed only by ‘socialism,’ at 31% positive and 60% negative. The word ‘capitalism’ had a 50% positive rating and a 30% negative rating.

desertflower quoted someone else and said: “We liberals” shouldn’t get too pleased with ourselves.I blasted him. This from the guy that is a proud backer of all things ALEC.I told him that he was a bought and paid for shill. Where DO these people come from?”
Honestly. Keep running as progressives and people will figure out what kind of crap you have been selling for about century. It’s not progressive – it is regressive and silly.
Go ahead and invoke ALEC all you want. On our side, we don’t bother arguing about George Soros or even that crap outfit you call NCSL. It’s silly nonsense.
The only difference is we know it and we don’t try to formulate rational arguments using those devices.
Apparently, for your side, this is all you have to argue. You literally have given up on any rational debate.
All we hear from your side is ‘zombie’ or ‘boogie man.’
Just keep saying it over and over again and somehow, with your heels clicked-thrice, the conspirators and the world will know we are on to them: “There’s no place like home for the Koch brothers, ALEC, Area 51, Halliburton.”
Unreal. As in the unreal in which you live.
P.S. Does Eric Hold know of the math test you force on people before they can post?
P.P.S. He may take you to court…. I’m just sayin’
Don’t worry you will break that one too.
You guys keep doing what you are doing and you will make progressive worse than your actual titles (liberal, lefty, socialists, etc) a curse in any political election that is greater than a single county.
And while this may offend you, the facts will eventually bubble to the surface and make ‘progressive’ as bad as saying leftist.
How do I know this? Because this is what you have already done to conservatism.
I am a classical liberal and you guys took over our term by making conservatism uncool so you gradually grabbed that title (without the appended classical).
In the 1910’s and 20’s you guys were so far removed from your Democrat (and far more wise – mind you) counterparts that you began grabbing on to the horrid populism that the Republicans were peddling in that day and you took over the party.
By the time anybody figured out that progressives were nothing more than putrid, pacifist, isolationist, socialists that even FDR had very little use for the Republicans finally threw you out.
You became homeless and then gradually took over the Democrat party. It took you almost 40 years.
The end of the Democrat party (the one that made any sense) was George McGovern, who later pulled his own head out of his ass and moved farther to the right. Certainly to the right of Walter Mondale, which was the era where Republicans finally got their groove back.
Today, when someone says they are a progressive, they mean they are on the left-wing of the lefty-Democrat party.
It means that they are crazy-left.
When people figure out that progressive in reality means regressive, you will lose that brand to the degree you already lost ‘liberal.’
If a pollster said, Progressives support more government intervention and spreading the wealth around, the poll would come out quite differently. You’d see that people would figure out that you were liberals.
It’s Funny how this whole label thing works out. Thirty years ago, TV news used the color red for Democrats and blue for Republicans on political graphics. During the 90’s and after the Soviet Union, media folks figured out that using soviet red for the liberals was probably not the best thing for their Democrat friends image and they reversed it. Today, Republicans are red and we still win elections.
Which brings us to the fun part: your labels don’t matter. You can go back and steal the term conservative as your own. Go ahead. It’s your ideas that people reject. When your side is honest enough to run on them – you lose. You always have and you always will.
“”"”Where DO these people come from?”"”"” I scraped them off the bottom of my shoe. Sorry…I should have thrown the residue in the bin.
Now, the problem I have with that response is that “progressive” is not only a word used on a pretty consistent basis but is also not a difficult word. Even a righty should know the definition. But then again….
So one of the local blogs that I post on, mentioned this finding. One of the State Reps for our state, commented on this…. condescendingly saying that the only reason why this word was so popular, is because no one knew what it meant! Seriously? “We liberals” shouldn’t get too pleased with ourselves.I blasted him. This from the guy that is a proud backer of all things ALEC.I told him that he was a bought and paid for shill.Where DO these people come from?
