Rick Santorum Says He Will End The Marriages Of Legally Married Same-Sex Couples

If there is one candidate in the Republican Presidential field that absolutely hates homosexuals, it’s Rick Santorum. He has never missed out on an opportunity to bash gays and same-sex marriage and he would just love to acquiesce to the demands of the extreme Christian Right, many of whom actually want to execute all members of the LGBT community. Santorum has compared homosexuality to “man on dog” sex (apparently Rick has some experience with that), and he allowed a debate crowd to boo a gay soldier after fielding a question from him.

Many Republicans have called for allowing states to decide whether or not to allow same-sex marriage, and many have also called for a constitutional amendment banning it altogether. Rick Santorum supports the latter and he says that if he were President, he’d annul every legal same-sex marriage in the nation.

During an interview with Chuck Todd on MSNBC, Santorum said he would invalidate same-sex marriages even though many states have legalized it.
??

“I think marriage has to be one thing for everybody, Santorum declared. We can’t have 50 different marriage laws in this country, you have to have one marriage law. Chuck Todd asked what Santorum would do with same-sex couples who got married and if he would make them get divorced. Santorum replied, “Well, their marriage would be invalid. I think if the constitution says “marriage is this,” then people whose marriage is not consistent with the constitution. I’d love to think there’s another way of doing it.”

Here’s the thing. What Rick Santorum wants to do is a violation of personal liberty and privacy as protected by the United States Constitution. Banning same-sex marriage via constitutional amendment would open the floodgates to laws that ban pre-marital sex, interracial marriage, co-habitation, and a whole host of things that should be legal to consenting adults. This would be big government invading our personal lives on an unprecedented level and it’s the Republican Party that wants to do this. The Republicans are hypocrites. They accuse Democrats of violating our personal lives when in reality, Democrats have done no such thing. But if Republicans gain full control of government, they’ll use the power of the federal government to tell us who we can and cannot marry. They want to pervert the Constitution with an amendment that would end our freedom of choice and personal privacy and Rick Santorum is leading the charge.

This is kinda depressing. I need a laugh,  I think I’ll go google Santorum.

  • I’ll not get in a discussion of what Democrats have done vs Republicans just to comment on Santorum. I have stated previously that Santorum is the most dangerous of the Republican candidates, this is just another example. While this law wouldn’t have any effect on me (my partner and love of my life was killed several years ago, Requiescat in pace), this is definitely the nose of the camel in the tent.

God help us all if he becomes a major player in the Republican nomination.

  • “open the floodgates to laws that ban pre-marital sex, interracial marriage, co-habitation, and a whole host of things that should be legal to consenting adults” But these are all things Santorum is against, that’s reallly yhe issue. On the other hand, his hair shirt looks really lovely when accessorized with a nice boa…
