Gingrich Continues Southern Strategy, Doesn’t Understand Why Calling Food Stamps An African-American Issue Is Wrong
The race to convince miserably uninformed white voters (presumably on food stamps themselves) to buy the poison–convincing god and guns conservative republicans to vote against their economic self-interests–sold as vitamin water by deeply contemptuous and deceptive Republicans is alive and well. And since serial adulterist Newt Gingrich cannot exploit the evangelical vote with his ever-so immaculate family values credentials, he has no other choice to bring out Nixon’s “Southern Strategy” from storage and exploit the living hell out of it if he wishes to remain competitive with Romney.

Newt was the focus of controversy earlier this month when the Former speaker (and husband, and husband) made the rather offensive claim that his policies should appeal to African-Americans because he will “talk about why the African-American community should demand paychecks and not be satisfied with food stamps”. So according to Newt thus far, blacks (not to be confused with blahs) are lazy, their children should be janitors, and they are all on food stamps and need to learn what’s best for them by a lifetime Washington insider, white elitist. Perhaps Michael Richards is one of his campaign advisors.
Apparently being on food stamps is part of the black experience, so put down your basketballs and turntables and listen to the crusty,old white guy. Oh, and guess what? Newt isn’t sorry and he feels his comments were taken out of context.
JUAN WILLIAMS: Speaker Gingrich, you recently said black Americans should demand jobs, not food stamps. You also said poor kids lack a strong work ethic, and proposed having them work as janitors in their schools. Can’t you see that this is viewed, at a minimum, as insulting to all Americans, but particularly to black Americans?
GINGRICH: No, I don’t see that
How it possible for a man vying to represent the entire United States not only thinks his comments couldn’t be construed as offensive, but doesn’t even know that the majority of Americans on food stamps during this horrendous recession are actually white. Well, that’s just the state of today’s sad and pathetic GOP: willing to make up facts on the fly and say the most offensive thing in order to bring down the black guy who beat the white war veteran in 2008.
Gingrich’s erroneous suggestion that food stamps are somehow predominantly black not only defies reality, it punches in the face and steals its wallet. Worse yet, it disingenuously puts all African-Americans together in the federal aid recipient crowd when the overwhelming majority of working-age black men and women are in fact self-supporting taxpayers. Where’s that guy who previously called Newt a f**king A-hole when you need him.
