CREDO Mobile has long billed itself as a liberal corporation and now they’re putting their money where their mouth is in a big way. CREDO has announced that it’s newly formed Super PAC will be spending $3 million to oust ten Tea Party candidates from Congress.
The Alaska Dispatch reports:
The first six targets of the campaign include GOP freshmen Reps. Sean Duffy of Wisconsin, Allen West of Florida, Joe Walsh of Illinois, Frank Guinta of New Hampshire, and Chip Cravaack of Minnesota. Five-term Rep. Steve King (R) of Iowa, an early supporter of the tea party movement, is also included. They were chosen for a voting record that the CREDO super-PAC website characterizes as “anti-woman, anti-science, and downright racist” – and because the incumbents are running in districts where “grassroots activism can ensure their defeat.”
CREDO Mobile is the brain child of Working Assets:
Working Assets was founded in 1985 to give people an easy way to make a difference in the world, just by doing the things they do every day. Each time our members use one of our services — CREDO Mobile, CREDO Long Distance and the Working Assets credit card — we automatically send a donation to nonprofit groups working for peace, human rights and the environment. To date we’ve raised over $65 million for groups like Greenpeace, Doctors Without Borders, Planned Parenthood and the ACLU. But we’re not just raising donations for progressive causes, we’re making change. Our CREDO Action Web site plugs you into a network of like-minded citizen activists and provides easy and effective ways to take action on the issues you care about.
The CREDO Super PAC is claiming that, unlike other Super PACs, theirs is funded by regular people. Becky Bond, the president of the CREDO Super PAC said as much on last night’s episode of Countdown:
Well, our — the thing that’s different about our super PAC from the Koch brothers’ super PAC is that our super PAC is funded largely with small-dollar donations from our activists on our 2.5 million-person CREDO action list. And we only started our PAC in December and we started asking people for contributing to this PAC. And it’s only today that we announced our candidates. We have 15,000 small-dollar donors. Some of them giving $10 to $25 at one time, some of them giving $10 to $25 a month. And we are on track to our goal of raising $3 million.
Looks like I might have to change my cell phone provider!
