Presidential nominee Newt Gingrich has decided to continue on with his pity party about how unfair the lame-stream media is by declaring that he will not participate in any presidential debates with President Obama if the moderators are media journalists—people like CNN’s Wolf Blitzer I would assume. There is no way in Hades that Gingrich would ever refuse to participate in a debate where the moderators where from Fox News. And with that analysis, This so-called cross that conservatives claim that they are forced to carry is just a talking-point crutch used to rev-up the unfair-circumstances-card that suggests that the media is biased or ‘in the tank’ for President Obama and the liberal agenda. Gingrich even compared having a media journalist as the moderator to basically having another President Obama surrogate on stage to assist the incumbent.
Newt Gingrich is supposed to be the greatest debater in the world, but he whines and complains about everything from what he considers to be ‘gotcha questions’ to the journalistic moxie of the moderators to hold him accountable to his statements. Gingrich might be out making these brash declarations about how he will or how he won’t participate in the fall debates unless his standards are met, but if he is the GOP nominee he will, in all likelihood, toe-the-party-line and do what every other nominee has done that has come before him, including his idol Ronald Reagan, and that would be to do more debating and less grumbling. This is not Burger King Newt, and you can’t always have it your way. No one should be allowed to assume the duties of the presidency without first demonstrating their ability to completely understand this aspect of politics as an undisputed reality.
It’s hard for me to remember witnessing this much moaning over the debate moderators, when it is unmistakably about 99.9% aimed at any journalist who is not inside of the conservative camp. Gingrich says he wants to have a series of Lincoln-Douglas Debates with President Obama. There’s more than a decent chance that neither Abraham Lincoln nor Stephen A. Douglas spent too much time vetting the party lines of or tying the successes or failures of their preparedness or their performances to the moderator.
Tonight in Florida, if Gingrich loses big to Mitt Romney in the Florida Primaries, which has been predicted to happen, it won’t be because of the lame-stream media or the debate moderators and the secretive Obama card that so many conservatives believe is tucked away in the bottom of their journalistic possessions. If Gingrich takes a shellacking from Romney tonight, it will be because Romney had more money—which he does, and it will be because Romney also had more answers—which he did! And, you can’t blame that on Wolf Blitzer, NBC’s Brian Williams, or CNN’s John King. The only person who is responsible for Gingrich not being able to live up to his high-horse, debate expectations is Gingrich, and that facet will not change whether it’s a Lincoln-Douglas Debate, a Republican debate, or an Obama-Gingrich debate, and that, my friend, is not debatable!
