Republican Senate Hopeful Sullies Super Bowl With Racist Commercial (VIDEO)
In a stark contrast to the inspiring message delivered by Clint Eastwood in his two minute “It’s Halftime In America” advertisement, Republican Senate aspirant Pete Hoekstra released an ad that revels in its message of divisiveness and racism.
It’s a simple premise: a young Chinese girl riding a bike through rural China stops and, speaking in stereotypical broken English, thanks Hoekstra’s Democratic opponent, Senator Debbie Stabenow (called Debbie “Spenditnow”) for borrowing more money from China; weakening our economy while making theirs stronger.
Here’s the ad:
Let’s overlook the fact that anyone with such a flawless American accent would not be speaking “Engrish”. Instead, let’s focus on the message itself. China is the enemy. They are taking our jobs and anyone who aids them, even indirectly, is a traitor to the country.
This is more of the jingoism that defines the Republican foreign policy. Just as with their social politics, they must have an enemy to stand against. They must have a boogeyman to frighten there constituents with. After the Soviet Union fell, the GOP fell with it in to disarray. Without an “other” to demonize, people started to look more closely at the party and its policies with predictable results. It’s hard to convince people to vote for economic suicide without first convincing them that only you can keep them safe from bad evil men.
I’ve been saying it for some time now and will continue to say it as often as necessary: within 10 years, the GOP will have abandoned Muslims as their main bugaboo and focused on China. There will suddenly be questions about the safety of Chinese take out. Magically, the same anti-regulation conservatives will want all imports from China examined for “dangerous” chemicals or some such. There will be a rise of anti-Asian violence simply because your average conservative thug can’t tell the difference between Koreans, Chinese and Filipinos. All this just for sake of distracting voters from the real issues.
Hoekstra will likely show little to no shame for insulting Chinese-Americans with his caricature. His base will eat it up and reward him for his racism. Hopefully, enough of the electorate will see him for what he is, a pandering incompetent that lacked the commons sense to keep his itinerary a secret while touring a war-zone and to not announce to the media that US intelligence had cracked a terrorists’ email account. All of this while serving as the ranking Republican on the Intelligence Committee.
No wonder he thought this commercial was a good idea…

I’m shocked Justin, that you would suggest that Republicans might resort to race-baiting and fear tactics. These are the salt-of-the Earth real Americans who are more moral and ethical then everyone else. They can’t do anything wrong! Even Jesus votes for them.
(But there’s not a sarcastic bone in my whole body!)
