Deadbeat dad and Tea Party Rep. Joe Walsh is at it again. Involving himself in issues he is woefully unqualified to be involved in, Walsh sat in his chair during the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform hearing on birth control last week and complained about President Obama’s new rules about contraceptives.
As part of Darrell Issa’s inquisition, no women were permitted to testify about birth control. Instead, the Republican head hunter invited a bunch of He-Man woman haters, also known as religious bigots, to speak on the issue of birth control, even though they lack the necessary anatomy to actually qualify to speak at such a hearing. According to Huffington Post:
“Walsh told the all-male panel that President Barack Obama’s plan to eliminate co-pays for birth control was an attack on religious freedom.
“This is not about women. This is not about contraceptives. We know, you’ve said it, we’ve said it up here. This is about religious freedom. This is about religious liberties,” Walsh told the panel.”
Here’s the video:
Joe Walsh should have removed himself from the birth control hearing. He had absolutely no business being there because he is clearly against women. Walsh is a Roman Catholic which is a conflict of interest considering the Catholic Church is the group complaining about a woman’s right to contraception. He also probably harbors a hatred for women on some level considering his ex-wife is suing him for over $117,000 in overdue child support, which he wouldn’t owe in the first place had he used birth control. The fact is, women should have been the dominant gender in the hearing on birth control because they are the ones who are affected most by it. This hearing wasn’t about religious freedom. It’s about the Catholic Church trying to enslave women under the dominion of men like Joe Walsh and Rick Santorum.

If we were all to accept the premise that the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform hearing on birth control, isn’t about birth control, then why are women excluded? Does the mere fact of being the possessor of a uterus make them unqualified?
Why then is it called the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform hearing on birth control, if it has nothing to do with birth control? Why not House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform hearing on religious freedom?
I’ve pointed out previously that businesses owned by religious entities are still businesses licensed by the state and under state requirements thus making these businesses no longer religious entities, and this does include non profits.
The level of ‘plausible deniability’ that is being attempted here is countered by the very language they use to label their attempt.
The degree to which men like Joe Walsh are willing to force women to bring children into the world and then abandon any responsibililty for those children is totally appalling. I hope women start showing up more and more like the women in Virginia just did in order to protest invasive ultrasounds on pregnant women: that is, en masse, arm in arm, in silence outside whatever governmental building said men are occupying. Our presence can be an overwhelming reproach; let’s start making it happen each and every time women are threatened with oppression.
