Open Letter To Bill Maher: Seems You Missed A Distinction

In response to Bill Maher’s admonishment to accept Limbaugh’s apology, the following occurred to me that I might relate to Mr. Maher:

Dear Mr. Maher,

No, Bill, not this time. This isn’t about being PC, and you don’t get to conceitedly and pompously dictate the rules of liberalism (as if!) to the rest of us. Limbaugh’s “apology” was completely insincere and was met with only the most tepid of responses by the GOP. Stop trying to be the left wing’s mouthpiece like Rush is to the right. For all that I think you perform a public service in exposing the literal insanity of – mostly the right wing aspect of – society, you’re still subject to error. Then again, perhaps you’re having a twinge of guilty conscience regarding some of your own less-than-savory past comments and are merely being self-serving. Whatever the case may be, I find it mind-boggling that no one, including such an astute fellow as yourself, has apparently thought to make the distinction between the behavior of someone like Palin who, with all seriousness, tells her supporters to “take aim” against those they disagree with, exhibits her ignorance of current events and the geo-political arena, and incites the masses with goofy zingers deservedly drawing harsh words and criticism, and someone like Fluke, who went to testify on a friend’s behalf and attacked NO ONE, being slanderously mischaracterized the way Rush did. Neither Palin nor Limbaugh have any class. Fluke does. Maybe you should follow her example.

Bill Maher defends Rush Limbaugh against Fluke fatwa | Washington Times Communities.

Labeling the few powerful and effective tools the common people have left to topple the abusive enemies of peace and enlightenment by hitting those foes where it really hurts – namely to boycott, petition, and ostracize – a “fatwa” demonstrates the ambiguity of your grasp of the concept “free speech.” Free speech promotes liberty, it uplifts, and it enlightens. Hate speech is none of that. Hate speech oppresses, enslaves, and intimidates. Hate speech promotes ignorance. I sincerely hope that, after in-depth consideration, you would conclude that you’d no more be a soldier of hate speech, Mr. Maher, than you would be, quite simply, the flip-side of the far-right coin.

I hope he enjoys the letter.

Thank you, Jeremy Huff! It seems as though Bill Maher missed more than a distinction. He missed that limbaugh didn’t even apologize..just more lying vitrol. Sandra Fluke didn’t accept his non apology and neither did 50 former sponsers. Bill is showing off his ignorance.

Excellent letter. Thank you. I am a fan of Maher, but disagree with him on a regular basis. There is NO comparison of Ms. Fluke with the likes of Snowbilly Grifter, CrazeeChele, or any of the RWNJ who continuously LIE and PROMOTE HATE with their specious speech.
