In tough economic times and in an era when nearly every political candidate is beholden to some corporation or other, we need a candidate who is a true trailblazer for the people. We need a candidate who is not only willing to take on the toughest challenges for the people but also is willing to go the extra mile to help those who need helping the most.
Enter Ken Aden, Democratic Candidate for Arkansas’ 3rd Congressional District seat in the US House. Ken is man who loves a challenge and who follows sound principles in answering a challenge. Ken’s life has been one of service to his fellow Americans and he isn’t known to take the easy route in order to serve.
Ken, a decorated combat veteran, first decided to take on an incumbent Republican Congressman in a traditionally Republican dominated district because he believes progressive ideas and principles have strengthened our nation over the years and will continue to do so in the future. One of the principles he stands for is representing the people and not corporations. That is why he is running a grassroots campaign against a candidate who is all too willing to accept corporate dollars. Sound like a daunting challenge? You bet and that’s the way Ken likes it.
As if bringing true representation of the people back to Washington were not daunting enough, Ken is taking on a new challenge. He is willing to go the extra mile or even the next two hundred fifty-three miles to help those in need. Ken is planning to run two hundred fifty-three miles in a large horseshoe across Arkansas’ 3rd Congressional District over the course of seven days from April 28th to May 5th. In case you’re wondering, that averages out to thirty-six miles a day for a week! The run isn’t to raise money for his campaign but to acquire canned food for food pantries in the district. How’s that for a selfless challenge to benefit the people he wants to represent?
Ken is actively seeking pledges of canned food for the run and says that if he doesn’t complete all two hundred fifty-three miles in seven days, then none of the food pledges will be collected. In 2010, Ken ran a similar run in Southeast Arkansas’ Mississippi Delta Region, one of the nation’s most poverty-stricken regions, raising more than 7,500 cans of food for the area’s poor.
Ken says “while families in the 3rd District go to bed hungry, our member of Congress continues to do the bidding of the wealthy corporations and their political action committees that helped put him in office, while turning a blind eye to the suffering right here at home.” Well Ken, your willingness to run so many miles across the Boston Mountains and the Ozark Plateau for the people is the defining moment that separates you from one who would prefer to run to the bank with the Koch brother’s money and then to Washington with their PAC’s interests.
If you would like to pledge food to Kens “Run 2 End Hunger II” contact him at aden4arkansas@gmail.com or call (479) 857-2124. All food will be collected beginning on May 10th 2012.
