Despite just voting in favor of the Blunt Amendment–the anti-women piece of crap that gives private employers the power to decide if their female employees can be ‘sluts’ or not, crotchety old “walnuts” McCain must have just realized that you can’t actually bomb a woman’s uterus as he’s now in favor of contraception.
Regarding a controversial bill moving through the Arizona legislature that seeks to give employers the right to restrict health insurance coverage of contraception to women based upon specific need, including endometriosis or an ovarian cyst, Sen. McCain (R-AZ) doesn’t believe it’s right and is opposing it. McCain is certain that the same legislation that made it through Arizona’s House of Representatives will not become law.
“I am confident that that legislation will not reach the governor’s desk, and if it did it would be vetoed,” McCain said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “It certainly doesn’t reflect, in my view, the majority view of the people of Arizona.” (Source: Cafe Mom)
How very maverick-y.
During an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press, David Gregory asked McCain whether there is a “war on women” among Republicans.
“Republicans need to ‘get off’ the issue of birth control and respect the right of women to make choices,” said McCain.
“I think we have to fix that,”he said. “There’s a perception out there because of the way that this whole contraception issue played out … We need to get off of that issue. In my view, I think we ought to respect the right of women to make choices in their lives and make that clear and to get back onto what the American people really care about — jobs and the economy.” (Source: Cafe Mom)
It’s difficult to gauge the sudden change of heart (perhaps Cindy is refusing his Viagra-induced advances), but it looks like a major member of the Republican establishment is finally acknowledging the sinister war on women his party is viciously waging at its own peril.
