Joe Walsh clearly has no connection with reality. He once claimed that the only reason President Obama won in 2008 is because of the color of his skin. This past weekend, Walsh repeated his claim again.
Speaking in front of a town hall in Illinois on Sunday, Walsh told the crowd that President Obama is an “accidental President” who only got elected because he is black.
“Again, lets not overlook the fact, guys and gals, he was a historic figure. He’s our first African American president. The country voted for him because of that. It made us feel good about [our]self. I’ve said it before, it helped that John McCain was about 142 years old. It helped that the economy was tanking. A lot of these things helped. But he never would have gotten there without his historic nature.”
Here’s the video:
So according Walsh, President Obama got elected because Americans felt some sort of feel-good obligation. I’m assuming he means ‘white guilt’ over slavery. At any rate, President Obama was not elected because of his skin color. Walsh’s theory doesn’t hold up and here’s why. Let’s say Romney wins in November. And let’s say liberals declare that Obama lost because he’s black. We all know that Republicans would deny this as an outrageous accusation. After all, they’re not racist, wink, wink. This is where the Republican logic fails because if he wasn’t defeated because he’s black, he can’t win because he is black either. But I wouldn’t expect Republicans, especially Walsh, to understand simple logic.
The fact is, President Obama won the 2008 Election because he had a better message and he appealed to more people. Unlike McCain, Obama was not out of touch with the American people. He made an excellent economic pitch which is currently in the process of working, and he promised to get Osama bin Laden if the chance presented itself, which is a promise he kept. President Obama did well with nearly every major voting group, including white people. In the minds of conservatives, people should have voted against President Obama because of his skin color. They’ve been telegraphing that thought for years.
Walsh knows he’s wrong, he just doesn’t want to admit that President Obama out-campaigned and had a better message and plan that the American people gravitated towards. President Obama was younger, more energetic, and had better ideas than John McCain. If President Obama were white, he still would have won that election. The Republican Party didn’t have a good candidate then, they still don’t have one now. That’s why I expect President Obama to win in November. And when he does, it won’t be because he’s black. It will be because he’s still the best qualified person for the job.

Conservatives continue to insist that their vehement hatred and unparalleled disrespect for Obama has no racial basis whatsoever, indignantly declaring “stop pulling the race card” whenever an Obama supporter points to evidence suggesting otherwise.
And then yet another tea party brown-nosing politician, FOX News commentator, or right wing blogger steps up to the plate …
WHAT an asshole
