It’s astounding how the right paints liberals, specifically, liberal women.
Activist, Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson is the CEO of BOND and BOND Action. The description on his website reads: BOND Action, has been created to educate, motivate and rally Americans to greater involvement in the moral, cultural and political issues that threaten our great country. Sounds pretty patriotic right? They always do.
Peterson was a guest on Hannity’s Great American Panel recently with Kristen Powers, a democratic pundit. When she asked him a question about the role of liberal women in America, he responded “Most Americans know that liberal women are destroying the family, they hate men, they hate society.”
Powers interrupted Peterson and said to Hannity, “That is absolutely false. Sean do I hate men, do I hate you?” She looked back at Peterson and said, “You are a pastor distorting God’s word for misogyny … when you say you leave a woman alone in charge of a family and she destroys the family.”
Peterson replied, “We allowed the National Organization of Women Who Hate Men to come in years ago …” To which Powers replied there is no such thing, but Peterson continued with, “We left them alone, look what condition we are in today; out of wedlock birth, abortion.”
He told Powers, “If you believe what you believe, why are you upset at me? I’m not upset at you.” She answered, “Because you’re a pastor using God’s word to teach misogyny to people.” Peterson affirmed, “I have a responsibility to tell the truth, you’re on the side of lies, why shouldn’t I be on the side of truth? Liberal women policies are bad for families, they’re bad for the country, they’re bad for America.”
Peterson is an insult to women all over the world. Whether you’re married or divorced, single or a single mother, women have proven that we are capable of not only bringing home the bacon and frying it up in a pan, we also change diapers, do laundry and make sure the family is taken care of.
Of course Peterson’s view is extremely narrow and comes from a place contrary to religious ideals, no matter how he tries to say otherwise. Why he thinks that everyone in the world should be practicing what he’s preaching borders on insanity.
No matter how hard they try, how loud they scream, there’s no way the majority of human beings are going to go along with the nonsense the right-wing religious fanatics try to shove down our throats.
Newsflash, Peterson: Women in general, as well as the National Organization Of Women do not hate men, but it’s a safe bet you’re not on their list for Man Of The Year. In your conversation, you say that women are calling themselves “whores.” No, we are calling ourselves SLUTS! And there’s a reason. Rush Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke a “slut” because she stood before Congress and spoke about the importance and HEALTH BENEFITS of contraception. Millions of women are coming together and saying to men like you: If Sandra Fluke is a Slut, so am I!
If you suffer the misfortune of reading his rhetoric or his Twitter feed, you can plainly see that Peterson is the one who “hates.” Typical strategy of the right—accuse the left of what they are precisely guilty of. This has worked for them in the past. It’s up to sane Americans to make sure this is now a losing proposition.
If I wasn’t laughing so hard, I might actually be a little freaked out.
