Apparently it took $3 million to officially confirm that North Carolina is as intolerant as ever, as it was just reported that North Carolina voters agreed to a constitutional amendment that defines marriage solely as a union between a man and a woman. Worse yet, the ban is not just limited to gay marriage, but civil unions and domestic partnerships are also included in the ban.
Naturally the amendment came into existence right as Republicans assumed power of the state Legislature after the 2010 elections; they hate big government so much, well, unless you’re not a uber wealthy christian male. In such a case, they want government in your bedroom and in your vagina since apparently a robust economy and safe, healthy environment are frivolous issues.
“I know that some people may argue that the Bible may not necessarily be applicable, or it should not be applicable, on such policy matters. But even looking at nature itself, procreation is impossible without a man and a woman. And because of those things, I think it is important that the state of North Carolina’s laws are compatible with the laws of nature but, more importantly, with the laws of God,” said Joe Easterling, who described himself as a devout Christian, voted for the amendment at a polling place in Wake Forest. Wow, I simply cannot wait to hear this man’s op-ed in the New York Times on gender and society or constitutional law.
Luckily not everyone in North Carolina has just one functioning brain cell and isn’t drinking the sanctimonious swill being served up by the self-serving and bilious right-wing.
“We think everybody should have the same rights as everyone else. If you’re gay, lesbian, straight — whatever,” said Linda Toanone, who voted against the amendment, said people are born gay and it is not their choice (Source: Washington Post)
I know, I know, what does this mean for Obama and will this play a role in the 2012 campaign?
Indeed, the decision of North Carolina to back this severely flawed and woefully unjust amendment will most certainly play into the rhetoric of both camps. The Democratic National Convention is set to take place in North Carolina and high-ranking members of Obama’s administration have recently broke ranks with the White House and expressed strong support for gay marriage, including vice-president Joe Biden and Education Secretary Arne Duncan. Does this mean that the President is soon to follow?

I spelled pedophile wrong, sorry !
It’s really a shocker to conservatives when all of they’re petifiles come rushing out of the closet.
I just don’t do not get it: WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE? And what makes them think they can force their beliefs on everyone else? California found a vote against gay marriage unconstitutional – and while we wait for the courts to “get off their asses” and reinstate gay marriage here – how can these people attempt the same?!?!
Maybe what we need is a referendum on every marriage. The couple would put their names on the ballot and then we can vote to decide whether they should be able to marry. Gender makes no difference, every couple needs to be judged by society since society obviously knows best who should, and should not, get married.
TAX THE CHURCHES!!! They need to keep their nose out of law making.
I DO NOT WANT TO PAY FOR THESE PEOPLES SO-CALLED GOD AND PRAYER FCILITIES!
TAX THE CHURCHES!
