Last month my colleague, Justin ‘Filthy Liberal Scum’ Rosario, introduced us to Adam Strange, a young liberal who made the video ‘How Conservatives Think.’
Strange is back with a new video but before I introduce you to it, I would like to preface it with some thoughts of my own.
Many of you are probably too young to remember the television show All In The Family. I was a very young girl when the show was popular and one distinct memory I have of it was Rob Reiner, ‘Meathead’, arguing with Archie Bunker, played by Caroll O’Conner.
They would argue politics, and Reiner’s character was a bleeding heart liberal. He represented the last of the hippie generation and his debates with the stuffy, closed-minded Archie Bunker were heated and passionate. Archie was bitter and dismissive and his retorts were rarely, if ever, based on fact. Sound familiar?
Politically speaking, we have moved away from the predominantly bi-partisan politics we enjoyed in the 80’s and 90’s and we’re back to a divided nation that is currently unable to meet in the middle. We are at war, women’s rights are back on the table and the Republicans are hell-bent on bullying, lying and doing whatever it takes to secure a Romney win even though many in the party don’t even like him.
There IS a glaring difference between the parties’ messages. The Conservatives understand exactly how and what to say to motivate their base. They have a well-planned and articulated tactic. Never mind that it’s primarily based on deceit and fear. It WORKS. Liberals have not been as swift and savvy with their message. They don’t boast or brag nearly as much as the other side. Adam Strange has provided us with a Master Narrative. It’s quite simple and easy to apply.
A HUGE part of how this election will be determined is the people. Word-of-mouth. We have the passion but we need a solid PROGRESSIVE NARRATIVE. Strange offers a great solution to the problem.
