With A Nod, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid Signals Support For Same-Sex Marriage

First, Joe Biden expressed his support of same-sex marriage on Meet The Press. Not long after that, President Obama announced his support of same-sex marriage during an exclusive interview with ABC. And now, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has reportedly jumped aboard the same-sex marriage support train with a nod.

According to the Las Vegas Sun , Harry Reid acknowledged that his children and grandchildren support legalizing same-sex marriage in his home state of Nevada and without one word, indicated that he would follow their lead if same-sex marriage were to appear on the ballot there.

“Reid communicated his position without words: He nodded affirmatively in response to a reporter questioning whether he would support a vote in Nevada to recognize homosexual marriages.”

To be clear, Reid still believes that marriage is between a man and a woman, but he also recognizes that views on this issue are shifting in America. Even though he voted for the Defense of Marriage Act, he has since voted against a Constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. And if his younger family members continue to try and convince Reid to change his own views, perhaps one day he’ll do more than nod in support of marriage equality.

Democrats are leading the way to full equality and rights for the LGBT community. President Obama became the first sitting Chief Executive to come out in support of same-sex marriage. His announcement was a major historical moment. Democrats across the country are determined to make supporting same-sex marriage a major plank in the Democratic Party platform, and with the voices of support from Vice-President Joe Biden and President Obama along with the nod from Reid, it’s a good bet that marriage equality will become the next great civil rights movement in America to be endorsed by the Democratic Party.
