Billboards Of Aborted Fetuses Coming Soon To A Truck Near You!

Clearly abortion is the central issue of the 2012 election for Mark Harrington, former Executive Director of the Midwest office of the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform and ringmaster of the Center’s visiting circus that is the Genocide Awareness Project. GAP is a traveling photo show that tours college campuses utilizing the overwhelming power of image to link abortion to victims of the holocaust and other historically recognized genocides. In other words dead fetus = piles of bodies at Buchenwald and yes some students complained but not as many as the ones who remained silent. Harrington left his position at the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform in early April, 2011 and by the end of April, 2011, had launched a new pro-life organization called “Created Equal.”

According to Harrington, “Created Equal’s goal is to train the next generation of leaders to take on the culture of death and win. We will specialize in youth training and outreach at the high school and college level. In addition we will be more agile in our use of prenatal and abortion imagery. The use of new media and various cutting edge display technologies will permit us to train and reach more students than ever before. Our projects will be easily transferable to students all across America so they can win the abortion debate on campus now and into the future.” That the pro-life movement, and their extremely effective propaganda machine, is going after the youth of America absolutely terrifies me but that’s another post.

Harrington is about to take some time off from the college campus and high school auditorium, to take a cross-country drive through the swing states. He will be driving a truck with giant billboards of mauled, bloody fetuses on the sides with VOTE PRO-LIFE stamped on them. I am not making this up. As per Harrington, the purpose of the billboards is two-fold; to encourage pro-lifers to register and vote for pro-life candidates and to obtain free media coverage in each state visited. Nothing like a billboard of aborted fetuses to get you some free media. The coverage is expected to keep the costs of the “Vote Pro-Life Billboard Project” low and at the same time guarantee that the message will reach the most people. When I read that I longed for the days when there was still such a thing as bad press, when the exposure of shameless manipulation and lies and utter absence of ethics, the latest Time magazine cover for instance, was still considered dead-wrong, and reason to ostracize, to not buy whatever was being sold, whether it was an idea, a concept, or a product.

Though 49% of the American population is pro-choice, as per the Gallup Poll 5/23/12, 51% of the population still believes that abortion is morally wrong and agrees with the limitations placed on abortion at the state level. Take that 51%, show them images of dead fetuses about which some will complain but even more will remain silent and the Billboard Project has a solid chance of swaying voters. The question that is not being asked and needs to be asked is this; if you’re so against abortion why not prevent it all together by putting all of your considerable energy and money into safe, free, contraception? The pro-choice movement needs to keep bringing the conversation back to that, the most basic, of questions.
