Mitt Romney just found out that sometimes bigotry just doesn’t pay off. Bill White, a registered Independent and head of a consulting firm in NY has asked for his donation back so he can give it to President Obama’s reelection campaign instead.
Bill White is openly gay.
The understandable reaction is that a gay voter will naturally be drawn to Obama for his recent support of same-sex marriage. But that was not what caused White to change his mind. White has pointed out that while he does not agree with Obama on economic issues, his real problem lies with Mitt Romney’s active opposition to gay marriage. More specifically, that Romney has made it clear he would like to push a Constitutional ban on it. According to CNN, White articulated this in a letter to Romney’s campaign:
“I feel that I no longer wish to support your presidential campaign and ask that you please return the maximum contribution that I gave to you last year.”
“You have chosen to be on the wrong side of history and I do not support your run for president any longer,”
“I believe that you will do as you now say and try to force a constitutional amendment which would attempt to make my own legal and blessed marriage null and void.”
This is what conservatives willfully overlook in their zeal to deny homosexuals their rights: you don’t have to love, like or approve of same-sex marriage. That’s perfectly acceptable but that doesn’t mean you need to stop other people from having one. That way lies oppression and discrimination.
In an interview with CNN White said the following:
“I had a very visceral reaction to him – he had a great opportunity… to get on the right side of history,” White responded. “And to be someone to the country that helps to unite us, versus what divides us. And I just think his very proactive intention to pounce on this issue now has sent me to the other side.”
“Now, I feel like he’s declared war on my marriage. And I could just sit back and not say anything. Or I could do something about it. And I’ve chosen to do something about it.”

2) Help to build busses
3) Buy bus passes
4) Sit in the back of the bus with your partner who is not covered on the company plan.
