A relatively quiet day of protests at the summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organizations in Chicago resulted in chaos. Unlike their counterparts in NYC, the Chicago police have mostly been cooperative and calm in the face of the Occupy protestors. Who knows, maybe they slip Valium in their donuts.
But as hundreds of protesters headed to the Board of Trade building Saturday night as they protested NATO, they were met with the usual type of overactive police, decked out in riot gear, that have come to define the protests.
At one point, a police van with sirens flashing drove down the middle of Jackson, forcing the marchers to disperse. A protester jumped on the front fender of the van, then got off, and someone shouted, “They hit him! They hit him!”
Twitter user @LiborVonSchonau reported the incident on Twitter and provided a photo of the van hitting the protestors. According to OccupyWallStreet’s official twitter page, the protestor who was hit has been hospitalized but that is all that they know.
