Standard Right Wing Propaganda: Evolution Disproves Homosexuality! Not That Evolution Is True…

Crossposted from ProudToBeAFilthyLiberalScum.com

Science is not what one would call a strong suit for conservatives but what that really means is that they are free to mangle it anyway they see fit in order to support their preconceived (and almost always wrong) beliefs. They abuse religion exactly the same way which strikes me as highly ironic.

This is a classic example of using “science” to support a preconceived notion. If evolution is real, then how can homosexuality be an inherited trait? AHA! Gotcha, stoopid liberals!

Here, sit down, put on this thinking cap and let me explain just how ignorant you are.

Wear it with pride when you vote Republican!

Comfy? Good. First, you’re assuming that homosexuals don’t have children. How many stories have you heard of men or women getting married having a bunch of kids and then admitting their homosexuality? Before homosexuality was acceptable to normal people (as opposed to low slope Neanderthals like yourself), men and women spent centuries living lives of quite desperation pretending to be heterosexuals. They may have been miserable but that doesn’t mean they didn’t have kids. Got that so far? Good.

Next, in societies where there was no stigma attached to it (the ones without the burden of the Bible), there was no particular reason a homosexual wouldn’t have children anyway. Just because you prefer the same sex doesn’t mean you are repulsed by the opposite sex; especially if you want children of your own. Remember, marriage only became “one man, one woman” is the last couple of centuries. Before that, arranged marriages were the norm. Think of kings and their concubines; they were married to a woman (the queen) whom they did not necessarily care for but needed to have children with. Outside of that royal requirement, the king was free to schtup whoever he wanted. There are plenty of gay couples that are more than willing to “do the deed” with the opposite for the sake of having children. Although science (which conservatives hate anyway) allows for this to be done without bumping uglies. If homosexuality is genetic (which is still not 100% verified at this time, there could still be environmental factors at play) than it can easily be passed on to descendants.

So the entire premise of this meticulously argued statement about stoopid liberals is already crushed and I haven’t even gotten to the science part of it! I enjoy that kind of stuff but most people are far too lame to be an awesome nerd like me so I won’t bore everybody with it. If you do want to read up on it, here’s a good starter piece which covers what I’ve said so far and more.

One last word on evolution, though. Yes, evolution should absolutely be taken as a fact. It is one of, if not the most proven fields of science. The fact that conservatives still think “it’s just a theory” displays a lack of education that should make every 5th grade science teacher weep bitter tears. If you insist that because scientists still (and always will) refer to it as “the theory of evolution” that it is not a fact, I will now remind you that scientists still (and always will) refer to “gravitational theory” or “the theory of gravity” and invite you to walk off a skyscraper and see how that works out for you. After all, if it’s “just a theory” then it must not be true if you say it isn’t!

Good luck, dummies!

While I completely agree with the logic and details of this opus, it would do the author good to proofread before publication. Also, it does no good to your (our) cause to call people with different opinions names like a sixth grader on the playground.

Still, the arguments present are strong and, of course correct.
