Spirit One Christian Ministry plans to build a Pro-Life Monument in Wichita, Kansas, complete with memorial gardens and an exact replica of the Wailing Wall in Jersualem. I don’t even know where to begin with this. Wichita, Kansas was home to Dr. George Tiller, an abortion provider who was shot dead in his church, by Army of God member Scott Roeder. Though pro-life leaders across the board decried Roeder’s actions, the militantly anti-abortion Army of God, called Roeder an “American hero.” Dr. Kris Neuhaus, a colleague of Dr. Tiller’s, continued to be persecuted after his assassination and her medical license was ultimately revoked in a trumped-up case brought by Operation Rescue and Kansans for Life and adjudicated by an anti-choice judge.
Abortion doctors and live children do not fare well in Kansas and Governor Brownback’s most recent tax bill, a veritable ode to starve the beast, eviscerates the services desperately needed by low-income children and their families. Babies being born in Kansas don’t do much better; Kansas is 40th in infant mortality in the country and has the highest rate of infant mortality for African American Children. All of this was what was going through my mind when I read that Pastor Rob Rotola of The Word of Life Church, which donated the land where the memorial will be built, and Pastor Mark Holick of Spirit One Church were about to launch or had in fact launched an international fund raising effort. The Church is expected to collect millions of tax-free dollars for the memorial that will be operated as a tax-exempt 501C organization.
