Christie Vetoes Funding For Women’s Healthcare

Author: 7:00 am

Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey (R) vetoed $7.5 million dollars in funding for family planning clinics just before the July 1, 12:01 deadline.

The women’s health bill would have provided funding for Planned Parenthood as well as other clinics offering preventive health care such as mammograms, pap smears and cancer screenings. The funding would not have covered abortions.

Christie: “The budget I signed reverses irresponsible funding decisions, establishes funding levels based on realistic and responsible revenue assumptions and increases our surplus. I am unwilling to surrender the gains we have made to establish fiscal responsibility in the state budget.”

So, women of New Jersey, if you’ve been hit hard and don’t have a job or can’t afford insurance, Gov. Christie has made sure you will not be able to visit a healthcare clinic that will help you with preventative care—care that ultimately reduces costs.  In other words, if you get sick, too bad for you!

Ask any member of The Tea Party and all you will hear about when Planned Parenthood is mentioned are abortions—which are still legal. If the Republicans dominate the next election, you can bet Roe v. Wade will be overturned faster than John Boehner can manufacture tears for the camera.
