Romney’s Wealthy Donor Explains How The ‘Common People’ Are ‘Not As Educated’ And Just ‘Don’t Understand’

We offer the following statement, as reported by the Los Angeles Times, from one of the attendees at one of the three fundraisers that Mitt Romney held today in the Hamptons.

A New York City donor a few cars back, who also would not give her name, said Romney needed to do a better job connecting. “I don’t think the common person is getting it,” she said from the passenger seat of a Range Rover stamped with East Hampton beach permits. “Nobody understands why Obama is hurting them.

“We’ve got the message,” she added. “But my college kid, the baby sitters, the nails ladies — everybody who’s got the right to vote — they don’t understand what’s going on. I just think if you’re lower income — one, you’re not as educated, two, they don’t understand how it works, they don’t understand how the systems work, they don’t understand the impact.”

We’ve long known that Romney – who has a $3 million Swiss bank account, numerous other offshore bank accounts, a $100 million IRA, and a dressage horse for which he takes a $77,000 tax write off – is out of touch with the concerns of average Americans. Apparently at least some of his donors are just as out of touch. Unfortunately, it is we “common people” who Romney is seeking to raise taxes on in order to help finance a massive tax cut for the 1%ers who attended today’s fundraisers.

I think this is very suspect.Without a name for this alleged person.

OMG, where to begin? Okay, first, to be fair, this article concerns the comments made by only one anonymous Romney supporter, so it can hardly be considered a representative sample. That being said, the ideas expressed by this person, if they are truly indicative of the views of Romney supporters, are appalling.

“Nobody understands why Obama is hurting them. . . . they don’t understand how it works, they don’t understand how the systems work, they don’t understand the impact.” Well, perhaps we ignorant low-lifes would have a better chance to understand if the upper-class wisdom of which this person evidently believes she is richly endowed could in some small way be shared with us. Unfortunately, this person, as well as just about everyone else of her ilk, is very good at casting aspersions and making doomsday predictions, but has proved entirely unable to explain what she means by this and to back it up with examples and evidence. Jabbering vague invective is hardly instructive and won’t help the ignorant masses yearning to understand.

Perhaps this person is the one who truly doesn’t get it. Spouting gibberish reminiscent of the notions of noblesse oblige and social darwinism of the 19th Century indicates that she is the one behind the times and unclear on how the system works. Perhaps what she fails to understand is that the “ignorant underlings” whom she believes don’t get it are simply expressing their own legitimate perspective on matters. Policy preference is not necessarily a matter of objective right and wrong, rather one in which the various groups decide what policies would best advance their interests. Obama is pursuing policies that help the many, while Romney would pursue policies that help the few and harm the many.

Lastly, the fact that lower income means less educated (if fact that indeed be) indicates more that our system is grossly unegalitarian and skewed towards the rich. Education should be something available to all, allowing the most intelligent and capable to advance, not those whose parents are the wealthiest.

All in all, I am glad Andrew Jackson became the democratization trend whereby the vote was given to everyone, not just the wealthy, cause this RICH BITCH is an ignorant fool whose influence on our government should be minimized.
