Boston Mayor Vows To Ban Anti-Gay Chick-Fil-A

Boston’s mayor, Thomas Menino, has vowed to keep to the infamously anti-gay fast-food restaurant, Chick-Fil-A from opening in Boston. The controversial president, S. Truett Cathy has stated that legalizing same sex marriage is “inviting God’s judgment on our nation.”

In response to Chick-Fil-A’s attempts to open a location in Boston, near the popular tourist attraction, the Freedom Trail, Mayor Menino had this to say:

“Chick-fil-A doesn’t belong in Boston. You can’t have a business in the city of Boston that discriminates against a population. We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion.”

“That’s the Freedom Trail. That’s where it all started right here. And we’re not going to have a company, Chick-fil-A or whatever the hell the name is, on our Freedom Trail.”

Chick-Fil-A has been coming under increasing fire for its public stance against homosexuality and its overt support of anti-gay political groups. Several college campuses have either petitioned to have CFA removed or to keep it from opening on campus. The most recent of these protests was in February of this year when the students of Northeastern University in New Jersey successfully blocked the company.

Whether Mayor Menino has the power to block CFA remains to be seen.

  • I think it’s a little ridiculous how liberals believe in individual freedoms until they run contrary to their own.

The stance the founder of ChickFilA took was the same our president once expounded as his own until he mysteriously flopped on the issue.

Plus, no one is saying that gay couples cannot cannot be afforded the same rights as straight ones. I am assuming the reasons for wanting to be viewed as a couple is to receive tax breaks and legally be made the others benefactor.

It doesn’t need to be called a “marriage” in order to achieve this. It can be enacted as a civil union, a domestic partnership. Traditionally two people of the same sex entering into a commitment is technically not a marriage. That was a definition expounded by the Church and adopted by our government.

You don’t mind when people burn flags, and glorify anarchy. But a 90 something business men articulating his personal beliefs that the definition of marriage is between a man and a woman is calls for out right banning. You don’t see a fundamental flaw in your thought process? If not then you truly are lost, and your inability to tolerate other people’s beliefs even when they run contrary to your own is ridiculous.

You claim to be the champion of free ideas. The true intellectuals who have all the answers concerning life, the economy and social freedoms. But you flat out persecute anyone who refuses to think like you. Where in history has that thought process led towards?

  • Until Chick-Fil-A starts to discriminate directly in their job sites, I don’t think the government can actually take any action. Chick-Fil-A later said they want to “leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena. The Chick-Fil-A culture and service tradition in our restaurants is to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect — regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender.” It sounds like the company’s stance is different from the company’s president’s stance.

Are there any Christian churches in Boston? I’m sure many of them take a stance against gay marriage. Even worse, they probably hold sermons preaching against homosexuality. Which is far more than a company’s president stating his personal belief. So long as the first amendment exists, we will hear statements that we completely disagree with.

Seeing the backlash others have gotten, I’d like to state that I’m fine with gay marriage and please don’t hate me. :(

  • Not that I possess much of one but what’s disheartening is that (seemingly many of) those who have had their own legitimate rights denied have no problem themselves in denying the rights of their enemies. Another case in point is the George Zimmerman-Trayvon Martin issue, where many African Americans and others as well post comments such as Zimmerman should be shot on sight, no trial necessary. In other words, just lynch him…precisely the behavior of the KKK, who of course were merely attempting to “keep a lid on” the Sweet Sunny Old South through terror. I guess it’s overly presumptuous to think that people are able to learn from example.

  • Hello, Idiots! I bring news! This cockamamie stance will backfire and set the LBGT agenda back considerably. This is an unforeseen consequence apparently, but then you are idiots. You see, Limbaugh, Beck, Savage, Levin, Hannity and O’Reilly are going to have a field day. Is it starting to come into focus yet? If yes, then okay–you know to leave the Kathy bastard be with his greasy spoon. If no, then even you will find out soon enough. You know this country was turning around on gay rights. In California the so-called Defense of Marriage referendum, Prop. 8, passed by a hair a few years back and it is believed that today it would have failed, though with a very close vote. But with the populace relentlessly propagandized by the conservative media beacons about how “traditional” Christian-operated enterprises that merely want to operate as Jesus would have, with a day of rest and worship, blah blah blah, will be BANNED from our towns, you will see a pronounced swing in public sympathy away from homosexuals’ rights for several years to come. Thanks so very much NOT for delivering them such a wonderful gift for their quiver.
