While the whole world is attuned to the tubs of gaffeine Mittens is drinking in merry old England and how he’s such a disconnected arse that even the Brits find him a pompous twit, but back at here home the hot-button issue of voter suppression in Florida just got even hotter than Florida itself.
Disgraced former Florida Republican Chairman, Jim Greer, who was arrested and charged with one count of organized fraud, four counts of felony grand theft and one count of money laundering (or what Washington calls an amateur), recently confirmed Democrats suspicions that Republicans are deliberately disfranchising large Democratic voting blocks ( blacks, young people, and the elderly) to make sure that their rich white guy wins.
Regarding the real reasons behind Voter ID laws. Greer said the following in a deposition in respect to a meeting with party officials in December 2009:
“I was upset because the political consultants and staff were talking about voter suppression and keeping blacks from voting,” he said, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Adding, “minority outreach programs were not fit for the Republican Party,” according to the AP. (Salon)
Now you might think that this is simply the antics of a desperate man, once readily willing to say crazy and offensive shit to steal money from crazy and offense people, only now is apt to start trashing ex-colleagues after they rebuked him. Since Florida’s Republican establishment has turned into Mos Eisley–a hove of scum and villainy– and since Greer found himself booted out of the country club asylum, there’s no doubt that he was as upset then about blacks being disenfranchised as a bear feels after eating hikers. Notwithstanding, the man spoke volumes about a party in total disarray and controlled by absolute wackjobs and ideological loons. Again, stuff anybody not watching fox news already knows, but it’s just so freaking satisfying to hear it come out of the mouth of a former Republican panjandrum.
“The wing of the party that does not agree with Charlie Crist considered me a moderate chairman,” Greer said. “As was commonly referred to them, the whack-a-dos, the crazies, the right wingers. As Dean Cannon said to me one time, the people that want to destroy our Party are trying to take it over.” (AP)
If proven true, this could really add fuel to the Justice Department’s investigation into Fl. Governor Rick Scott’s purging efforts.
