Jon Stewart Mocks Republicans For Doing Little To Regulate Wall Street And Fix The Economy (VIDEO)

Jon Stewart slammed Congressional Republicans on Thursday night’s edition of The Daily Show, and managed to show a House Democrat willing to tell the GOP to stick it.

Stewart played a clip of a former Citigroup banker calling for a return to the Glass-Steagall Act, regulations that keep deposit banks and investment banks separate, thereby preventing banks from gambling with money that doesn’t belong to them. Stewart wondered if there was anyone in Congress who would be “assholian” enough to oppose banking regulations, and cut to a clip of Republican Eric Cantor voicing his opposition to any regulation until the economy significantly improves. Of course,if the economy is ever great again, Republicans will simply say that regulations are unnecessary because the economy is so great.

Stewart pointed out a Republican bill that contained a supposed typo. The bill was allegedly intended to say that regulations will only be implemented once unemployment reaches 6%, but without the ‘un’ in front of ‘employment.’ Basically, the bill can be interpreted as meaning that Republicans refuse to pass new regulations until 94% of the American people are jobless.

Republicans have been desperate to change the supposed error, and have requested that Democrats allow them to change the wording for the record. Stewart played a clip of GOP Rep. Issa asking for Democratic support to unanimously allow the GOP to change the bill. The Democrats were unsympathetic to the Republicans, basically telling them to call someone who actually gives a shit.

“Republicans made a typo, they asked the Democrats if they wouldn’t mind if they went back to correct it, and the Democrats said, ‘Yeah, fuck that,’”. Stewart said.

That’s right, Democrats gave Republicans a taste of their own medicine. Republicans claim they messed up, but Democrats won’t let them change the error. This is pretty ballsy of the Democrats. The Republican “error” could be a Freudian slip for all we know and Republicans are simply desperate to cover their collective asses before a majority of voters notice. However, it’s more than likely an error as Republicans claim, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t. We are talking about a Republican Party that doesn’t give a damn about improving the economy and job outlook, after all.

At any rate, Stewart finished up by asking what Republicans are wasting time on in Congress instead of dealing with economic issues and then played clips of Republicans talking about a bill making English the official language.
