If Mitt Romney chose his running mate, Paul Ryan, to dazzle the public, it doesn’t seem to be working, at least if ratings are any indication. Wednesday night’s ratings for the Republican National Convention were just over half what Sarah Palin’s ratings were four years ago and the show Honey Boo Boo, about a redneck family, bested each of the networks carrying the convention.
From the New York Daily News:
When Palin spoke on the second night of the 2008 Republican convention, TV viewership in the featured 10-11 p.m. hour totaled roughly 37 million.
When Ryan spoke this Wednesday, about 20 million viewers tuned in.
Even Fox News Channel, which again dominated convention ratings, lost 1.3 million viewers, dropping from 9.04 million to 7.7 million.
The convention winner of the night, if there was one, was Fox News, who lost just 1.3 million viewers, down from over nine million to under eight million. The loser was CNN, which lost 75% of its viewers.
Oh how the mighty have fallen -
Four years ago, the networks couldn’t get enough of Sarah Palin. Even after arguably losing the election for John McCain, Sarah Palin’s commentary was ratings gold. A reality show was even created around her.
It’s hard to say if it was overexposure or if she stuck her designer muck-lucks in her mouth one too many times, but she’s now a network pariah, even for Fox News. She’s been eliminated not just from the convention, but from any commentary. From her own Facebook page:
I’m sorry Fox cancelled all my scheduled interviews tonight because I sure wanted to take the opportunity on the air to highlight Senator John McCain’s positive contributions to America, to honor him, and to reflect on what a biased media unfairly put him through four years ago tonight. Granted, our honored and esteemed war hero has gone through much more than the liberal media can ever do to him in their efforts to harm this patriot. I look forward to hearing his words to his fellow Americans tonight more than any of the other convention speeches. God bless John McCain. Thank you for everything. And happy birthday, my friend.

What’s a Sarah Palin fan to do? -
Fret not, Mama Grizzlies and Papa (Bears?), a new family, possibly even more dysfunctional than the Palins, have come on the scene. The show is called Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and it is about a pint sized beauty queen who is part of a redneck family.
Here’s a taste:
Honey Boo Boo even had more viewers than Fox News’ convention coverage.
