Mitt Romney may have thought he locked up the most inappropriate and stupid thing to say following the heinous attack on the US Embassy in Libya but Rep. Todd Akin, the man who thinks the uterus is a deeply analytic instrument with magical eggs that can choose whether or not to get pregnant following rape, apparently thought, “hey, I can top that!”
Since Republicans appear to really love doubling down on outright lies, the controversial and fledgling Missouri Republican Senate candidate echoed Romney’s partisan and opportunistic attack line on President Obama and threw in some own smears of his own. It should be noted that Akin is somehow a member of the House Armed Services Committee.
“First of all, apologizing to all people, [to] a lot of countries who are enemies, and apologizing to them and everything. You know, if we did something wrong, that’s one thing. But he’s just apologizing because he didn’t like America? I think that’s the wrong thing to do,” said Akin, outlining why he disagreed with Obama’s foreign policy. (Huffington Post)
Here’s the video:
At least he didn’t say that the embassy can’t be pregnant when it’s raped.
Despite the fact that the so-called ‘apologizing’ on the part of the White house has been loudly and proudly debunked and mainstream Republicans have largely criticized Romney for his rushed judgment, Akin has proved that reality isn’t something he’s concerned about.
Combine John Kerry’s rousing foreign policy speech at the DNC and the brilliant smackdown of Romney’s complete and utter lack of foreign policy experience with President Obama’s mostly strong and successful foreign policy accomplishments (he was once chided as being too weak and inexperienced), and what you have is an issue over which Republicans once reigned supreme or at least Karl Rove was manipulative enough to have you believe. Moreover, the Democrats seemingly nascent strength on national security matters (similar to their new-found role as the servants of fiscal responsibility) appears to be enraging Republicans so much that fear-mongering just isn’t enough; they now have to reach and stretch the truth beyond conceivable bounds.

This insane little twit would have been laughed off the stage fifteen years ago as the extremist that he is. The Missouri senate race should have been over two weeks ago, and yet the voters in the show me state seem to have the memory and attention span of a gnat. His pontifications on rape should have buried Akin, but according to the copy readers from this teevee station, the polls are showing a close race.
