Finding steady employment in America today is hard enough but if Hobby Lobby gets its way you may need to check a company’s religious status before accepting any job offers. According to The Christian Post, Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. has filed a lawsuit opposing the Health and Human Services contraception mandate because it would conflict with the owner’s religious beliefs. Keep in mind that no one is forcing the owners to take any kind of pill so what they’re actually saying is that the business is professing a faith in evangelical Christianity and when an employee’s religious views don’t agree with their company’s, they’ll have to pay out of their own pocket.
Contraception isn’t cheap, but it probably wouldn’t bankrupt you either. Working for an evangelical Christian business might be an acceptable option, especially if you’re not a female in your child-bearing years. A Scientologist company could be the right choice for you if you’ve never needed psychiatric services and feel confident that you’re mentally strong enough to withstand any sort of challenges. A corporation that follows the Jehovah’s Witness faith would be one of the biggest gambles. All it would take is one blood transfusion to empty your bank account and ruin your credit for years to come. Since most corporations are somewhat sociopathic beings though, my guess is that if this precedent is set, the pews of faith-healing churches across this country will swell with companies eager to convert. After all, medicine costs money and prayer is free.
