Mitt Romney and a Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives must be drinking the same Kool-Aid, because they’re a near match at making moronic statements on the campaign trail.
David Rouzer, a former Washington lobbyist and current state senator in North Carolina, said at a recent campaign event that his experience in Washington taught him how to “defund and get rid of” bureaucrats, such as those at the Department of Energy, Department of Education, and Department of Housing and Urban Development, all agencies which he wants to work on closing if he wins the congressional seat.
What’s his problem with the Department of Energy staff, anyways? They’re too educated! You can actually catch them (and I quote Rouzer) “reading books and reading magazines,” you know, about high-level Deptartment of Energy stuff, like clean energy, nuclear safety and security, and research to improve energy use.
That’s not all! Sen. David Rouzer, who also championed the climate-denial bill passed in North Carolina which ignores projected sea-level rises in coastal planning, said at the same event that the U.S. federal government is one of the agencies we can do without:
When I served in the executive branch for about a year and a half [...] I learned how the bureaucrats operate. It gives me a lot of insight into how to defund them and get rid of them. When I went over to the Department of Energy one day, you walk down the hall and most of them who are drawing 6-figure salaries are sitting there reading books and reading magazines. Ladies and gentlemen, we can devolve, get rid of the Department of Energy and move some of those responsibilities back to the states. Department of Commerce, same thing. HUD, Housing and Urban Development, same thing. Department of Education. If you look at the decline of education, it started when the federal government got involved in it. That’s another agency [to defund and eliminate].
Watch for yourself here:
Still don’t think Rouzer is as bad as Romney, after Rouzer’s ardent denial of climate change and crusade to close government departments because people read books? Here’s another one: Rouzer also proclaimed at a rally this week that once voters remove “girly men” like Obama from the White House, foreign turmoil will end because everyone shall fear America again.
Rouzer: When we get [Romney and Ryan] in, you are going to see a big change, you’re going to see [...] that America is going to be respected again around the world. You’re going to see all this turmoil that’s taking place, you’re going to see them look up and say guess what, the American people have spoken and maybe we need to cut it out a little bit, maybe we need to tone it down a little bit, because now we have real men in the White House.
Shout from audience: No girly men!
Rouzer: That’s right, no girly men.
