With the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s decision earlier this week which effectively killed the new Voter ID law, the issue for this election had apparently been resolved.
Not so fast says the Independence Hall Tea Party of Philadelphia, a shadowy organization which operates a Political Action Committee and is run by Don and Teri Adams. The president of the IHTA, Don Adams, along with his sister (and vice-president) Teri Adams are demanding that the new rule be put in to place and 3/4 of a million citizens of Pennsylvania be denied their right to vote or else they will enact revenge on the judges to ensure that they will not be re-elected.
For those who remember, Don and Teri Adams are not new names to the courts around Pennsylvania. Their lawsuit against the Teamsters union claiming a conspiracy to suppress their rights to verbally assault people at a pro-Clinton rally in 1998 (the suit was found in favor of the Teamsters) was found full of inaccuracies, conspiracy laden tirades, and generally lacked facts to back it up. What is more fascinating is how the two siblings then claimed that they won the case, a year after the final appeal was settled. They claimed it was settled out of court, but the agreement was to be kept confidential so nobody could verify. Convenient for them.
Based on the groups PAC and association websites, this tea party organization seems to be nothing but an astroturf lawsuit factory using similar tactics as the Westboro Baptist Church.
Now this lawsuit factory has decided that the right to eliminate voting for anyone who disagrees with them is of the utmost importance. They are angry at a courts unanimous decision, so are plotting out their revenge. Courts are supposed to be above politics, and this group is effectively declaring war on the very concept of the United States. To these people it appears that nothing else matters, not the Constitution, not the laws, not the courts. The only thing which matters is that they get their way, forget everyone else.
“I’ve got mine, forget you all” indeed.
