Abortion Clause Signed By Tagg Romney In Surrogate Birth Contract

Mitt Romney’s son Tagg and his wife became the proud parents of twins last May via surrogate. TMZ is reporting the couple signed a contract in 2011 that contains a clause allowing the birth mother to abort if she felt her health or well being were at risk—as well as non-life threatening situations.

Paragraph 13 of the clause states: “In the event the child is determined to be physiologically, genetically or chromosomally abnormal, the decision to abort or not to abort is to be made by the intended parents. In such a case the surrogate agrees to abort, or not to abort, in accordance with the intended parents’ decision.” And there’s another relevant provision in Paragraph 13: “Any decision to abort because of potential harm to the child, or to reduce the number of fetuses, is to be made by the intended parents.”

Tagg Romney and his wife used the same surrogate in 2009. The attorney, Bill Handel, who orchestrated the deal, reported that there was no Paragraph 13 providing for abortion in the contract because the Romney’s didn’t want it. According to Handel, when the contract was drawn up in 2011, the parties involved “just forgot” to remove it.

TMZ is also reported that “sources connected to Mitt Romney” reveal the presidential candidate helped with some of the costs associated with the contract. Perhaps this was an oversight, but if it was, it was incredibly sloppy for such a high-level business leader who is now fanatically pro-life, to overlook such a clause, especially when eyeing the presidency.

Mitt Romney is on camera stating he believes a woman has the right to choose and he would never take that right away. Additionally, Romney’s company Bain Capital invested in Stericycle, a medical waste firm that disposed of aborted fetuses in 1999.

Whether or not this abortion clause was an oversight, Mitt Romney has a very shady history of changing his position to suit his goal.
