Oh wait, this means that Ann Coulter opened up her mouth again, this time on ABC:
So, let us get this right. Ann says that immigrants and LGBT do not have civil rights, and that the issues of racism are not universally shared between different ethnic groups?
To a conservative mind like Coulter’s, everything is limited. For one group to have rights, another group must have their rights taken away. This is, of course, preposterous to anyone with the ability to think. Letting a black person get married does not mean that a white person cannot also be married. Letting a Hispanic person get a drivers license does not prevent an LGBT person from also gaining a license to drive as well.
She also felt that rights should only exist for people who we “owe” as given in this exchange:
COULTER – The way that liberals have treated blacks like children, many of their policies have been harmful to blacks. We do have a legacy of slavery and Jim Crow laws. We don’t owe the homeless, we don’t owe the feminists, we don’t owe women who are desirous of having abortions or gays who want to get married to one another. That’s what ‘civil rights’ have become for much of the left.
STEPHANOPOULOS – Immigrant rights are not civil rights?
COULTER – No, I think civil rights are for blacks. What have we done to the immigrants? We owe black people something, we have a legacy of slavery. Immigrants haven’t even been in this country.
Coulter’s mind seems unable to grasp what rights even are. You do not grant rights due to some kind of debt; rights are something each and every one of us have.
