Cassy Zobel, a 34 year-old, white democrat who lives in Mckinney Texas, had a rude awakening Friday morning. Her neighbor rang her doorbell to alert her to the vandalism and blatant racism on her property.
Zobel found that someone had covered her Obama/Biden sign, displayed in her yard, with offensive graffiti on both front and back.
The front read: NIGGER LOVER Obama sucks dick.
The back: Romney & Ryan *Christiam (sic) *White *Anti-gay Republicans Rule.
Zoble wrote about it in her blog Blue Chick In A Red Barn:
“Firstly, I hope you don’t have children. I’m no handwriting expert, but I’m thinking you are a grown woman. In fact, you’re probably one of those ‘Christians’ who gets all of her news of (sic) FAUX and just can’t stomach the idea of anyone who’s other.
Well, here’s something for you…The police have been here and filed a report. The HOA has been notified, and my sign is uncovered and back in my yard. I’m not afraid of you and your bigotry. Cameras are being installed and WHEN we catch you messing with our sign you will, quite appropriately be charged with the felony this is and smacked with the associated $2,000 fine.

P.S. I find it interesting that our little suburban city was just named the 2nd best place to live in America. I suppose there should have been a caveat. “Best Place to Live If You’re A Bigoted White, Christian, Anti-Gay Person Who Doesn’t Support Our First African-American President And Hates Everyone Who Does”. That was probably too long a title, though.”
Zobel told blogger Egberto Willies:
I support the President because he believes in all people, he prefers diplomacy to bombs, and he is part of the party of inclusion, not exclusion,” she explained. “I support him because he believes that food and medicine for our kids shouldn’t be put on the table for cuts before tax breaks for big corporations. I support him because he supports my right to determine what I do with my body and what my daughter someday chooses to do with hers.
In an update on her blog, Zobel notes, in part:
By the way, if you’re the person responsible for having stolen our sign from the yard last night, we have a camera and we saw you do it. The police now have the video and are going to throw the book at you – as they should.”
There is a certain segment of the population that simply does not accept that America has a black president. Racism, from anyone, no matter your political affiliation, is inexcusable. It has nothing to do with policy, or how a person will do their job.
We still have a long way to go on the road to tolerance. It’s a painful ride and one day, we’ll get there.

These back-alley “Christians” are as much a Christian as I am a Japanese beetle. I can’t stand those people. Christians. Is that a cult? It seems like one. I wish those people would go away. They’re ruining the spirit of the United States of America.
I agree: by the handwriting displayed, the sick criminal who perpetrated the hate crime is a 60+ female (“Republicans ‘RULE’”) possibly a teacher in a Christian school.
Racism expresses itself in a variety of ways.
Some knuckle-walkers are blatant and unabashed racists, as is the case in several striking incidents that have been reported over the last 3+ years involving both public officials and private citizens denigrating the POTUS with racially-insulting signs, billboards, email messages, etc., such as the deplorable situation described in this story.
Other folks indignantly proclaim that “some of my best friends are (fill in the blank).” One may behave in an extremely civil manner — or even be friendly — toward someone of a different ethnicity … so long as that person does not offend one’s sensibilities or disagree with one’s political ideology.
It is often when confronting someone with whom one has a conflict that race suddenly becomes an issue and ethnic bigotry rises to the surface … such as when a person of color is the butt of a racially-insensitive joke delivered at a political event.

Cassy, I admire the way you handled this. You are to be commended! I’m going to invest in some of that blue glue one of your posters suggested. I think that glue is a great idea! We have many people who have been taught to hate…. a carry-over in their DNA from almost 400 years ago when our forefathers allowed slaves to be brought to this country. Hate is such a wasted way to expend energy.
I deal with this a lot I am from Texas & 99% of my family is still there, still conservative, and still not quite so bright at times. But having been married to a black man for over 25 years makes them at least try not to show the utter ignorance to me, it is kept for their friends. I keep trying to show them Obama is no different than my children, who are well brought up, well-spoken, and very liberal. One has a college degree, one is working on it, and the other chose the no degree route. Things like this make me sad to say I am from Texas, but I keep hoping one day the light will shine with truth and dim their ignorance to nonexistence.
