Romney Accidentally Tells The Truth – Obama Never Raised Taxes (VIDEO)

You know how conservatives say Obama’s raised our taxes? Sure you do! They’ve said it since 2009. The entire premise of the Tea Party was that they’ve been Taxed Enough Already. Isn’t that clever?

Here’s a few conservative news sources:

- Obama Raised Taxes Today. Yup, Not Just the Rich -April 1, 2009 National Review

- Obama Budget Raises Taxes and Doubles the National Debt -March 9, 2010 The Heritage Foundation

Here’s a few signs from Tea Party rallies:

It’s safe to say that “Obama raised taxes!” is a very common trope among the right. When liberals point out that this is not true, we’re called liars and worse. Obviously, we’re just covering for the president, we’re in the tank for him, blah blah blah.

I guess that means Mitt Romney is a secret Obama supporter.

“I admit this, he has one thing he did not do in his first four years, he’s said he’s going to do in the next four years which is to raise taxes”

What makes this sudden burst of honesty even more priceless is Paul Ryan’s face as soon as Romney says it at :12. You can easily read Ryan’s facial expression: “Why the hell did he just say that?” Ryan knows, just as Romney does, that Obama hasn’t raised taxes and the myth that he has is integral to keeping the extremely gullible Republican base enraged and resentful.

This won’t make much of a splash in conservative circles. The pundits will either ignore it or pretend that Romney misspoke. Conservative voters are too invested in the myth they’re being taxed to death (even though their taxes are lower than they’ve been in a generation) to pay the slightest attention to it. The Romney campaign released a statement already on it. Via ABC News:

“President Obama has raised taxes on millions of middle-class Americans during his first term in office,” spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg said in a statement. “Governor Romney was clearly communicating about an additional tax increase President Obama is proposing on American small businesses that will jeopardize over 700,000 jobs. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will stop the President’s tax increases, create 12 million new jobs, and turn our economy around.”
The GOP has lied to its base for years; we all know it, but it’s nice to have it on the record.
